Great show guys.
The topic of artificial intelligence is as amazing as it is scary. I also think those robots in the movie I Robot look very realistic. On the topic of
letting computers make decisions, I have an interesting story to tell.
I'm an electronics engineer and I read somewhere that a research team designed a board of programmable chips and wrote a program for the computer to
be able to program them and find the optimum way to solve a problem. The board had a microphone on one end for input and a speaker as the output and
it was assigned to duplicate a particular tone. Well the program tried several things and went through like 100 generations until it evolved to
complete the task, and when they traced out the path on how it was able to create the sound, they couldn't understand how it worked.
Right now some computers have the ability to repair themselves if some part goes bad, it reprograms itself to use a different circuit. I envision that
soon, we won't be writing the computer programs. We will just tell a computer what to do and it will write the program it needs to do the work.
If you want to do another show on future tech, you should ask William Shatner who did a special on the History Channel a while back called Star Trek
Tech. The show covered things like the communicators in the show are what inspired cell phones and things like that.
Cheers.
