Hurricane Katrina Victims Sue For Three Quadrillion Dollars

news.yahoo.com

NEW ORLEANS - Hurricane Katrina's victims have put a price tag on their suffering and it is staggering — including one plaintiff seeking the unlikely sum of $3 quadrillion.

A whopping $3,014,170,389,176,410 is the dollar figure so far sought from some of the largest claims filed against the federal government over damage from the failure of levees and flood walls following the Aug. 29, 2005, hurricane.

Woa, I knew there would probably be law suits or had been law suits against the government, but this is truly shocking. The US economy seems to be falling into bad shape already without this case.

The amount is comical but the nature of the lawsuit is a great example of why the fed should stay out of the business of states and towns.

There was a time in this country not too long ago (grandparents remember it) when if the President took a helicopter tour of your state you got suspicious and wanted nothing nothing more than him and his federal troops to leave ASAP.

Now we all shout and holler for them to come and bail us out of everything.

I'm sorry, but New Orleans was built in a bowl on the edge of an ocean. It was bound to be flooded and will get flooded again regardless of how much money and time gets wasted on some wall.

It's in a bowl. Move.

Here in CT we had some flooding over the Summer and immediately everyone started shouting at the Governor to beg some cash out of the fed. She did. The fed refused and that just fueled some groundless "Bush hates CT" nonsense.

The lesson here is stop relying on the fed. Don't keep feeding it funds just because it demands it and never, ever ask it to do anything for you. If it shows up ready to do something for you slam the door in its face and tell it if it doesn't get off your lawn you'll shoot it.

Anybody else notice how the areas under private rebuild are all finished for an awful lot less cash than the areas the fed is trying to rebuild for an awful lot more cash?

I cant say that I have noticed the private areas that are charged less. I'm not really observant, I'm more or less oblivious to my surroundings unless I judge situations closely.

The government still surveys many areas. I have relatives in Houston, TX, and they say there are plenty of federal helicopters flying around. I remember coming back from Panama City, Florida in the summer, going back to Alabama, and I swear I saw four at a time in the same area. I saw nine all together. I'm not talking states apart either.

But... they're juuuuust doing what they've been trained to do.

When someone trains a dog to pee on the rug, do you get mad at the dog or get mad at the trainer? In reality the trainer has intentionally trained the dog to pee on the rug as an excuse to take away the rug.

They're still arrogant scum, no doubt. Victim mentality gotta-find-someone-to-blame pieces of trash. Each one filing suit is lucky to be alive in the first place. I hope they blow their life savings on court costs and lawyer's fees so they can't even cover the bus fare home when their cases are dismissed. Some people need to hit rock bottom before they snap out of their delusions and take responsibility for their own lives. I would've thought Katrina itself would have done that for most. But then again, there's always someone to sue.

Well, if they win, they'll have all the money in the world. Literally.

Shows how daft the US system is. Why don't they ask for the Sun, the Moon and Jupiter to be thrown in as well?

let's see you live on the coast. You live under sea level protected by an ancient levee. You are told to leave that a storm is coming. Your city has some of the highest crime in the U.S. So you sue the "gubment". Sounds good to me. It has to be their fault doesn 't it?
