I need help with some formulas I always seem to forget. If anyone has any ideas on how to remember them better please also let me know that. I know the answers from my head, but the formulas get me on these.

A perimeter of a rectangle is 38 cm. The length is 3 cm more than the width. What are the dimensions?

The sum of 2 consecutive integers is 493. Find the integers.

A hotel managers salary is 61,000.00 which is a 12% increase over last years salary. What was the previous years salary?

A 20 foot board is cut into 2 pieces. The length of one piece is 2 more than twice the other piece. Find the length of the two pieces.

I simply need the formulas because I left my book at school. Any help would be appreciated.

Second one is 246 and 256.

Not sure how to write general formulas for them, but I'll try to help.

A perimeter of a rectangle is 38 cm. The length is 3 cm more than the width. What are the dimensions?

Let x= the width
Let x+3 =the length

2x+2(x+3)=38

The sum of 2 consecutive integers is 493. Find the integers.

Let x= 1st integer
Let x+1=Consecutive integer

x+(x+1)=493

A hotel managers salary is 61,000.00 which is a 12% increase over last years salary. What was the previous years salary?

Let x= Last yrs salary

x+0.12x=61000

A 20 foot board is cut into 2 pieces. The length of one piece is 2 more than twice the other piece. Find the length of the two pieces.

Let x=Length of one piece
Let 2x+2=length of other piece

x+2x+2=20

Sorry.

First one = x*2 + (x+3)*2 = 38 and then you solve for x.

Second one = X + X + 1 = 493

I don't remember the formula for the third one.

Last one = X + X + 1 = 246.

Damit, someone beat me to it.

Word problems are some of the most misunderstood ideas in math although they are normally easier than they seem.

If anyone needs help including Thermodynamics and Calc 4 I can help.
