UFOs, or Sky lanterns?

I live in San Diego, looking in that direction every night to have a smoke. I was outside looking up at the stars. So I think if this was some kind of Pheonix lights type of event it would of came into my line of sight before the guys in Clairemont saw them.
Anyone know anything more about this?
