What is behind all these things that surround us ?
A presentation about how the "stuff" around us gets made, and the implications of it. The problem is that if we just stop consuming so much, the producers go bankrupt and the economic system fails.
At the end the lady that does the presentation speaks about some solutions, I do not think it's that easy.

www.storyofstuff.com...

People need to work somewhere - but that is not a problem that we can solve by making them produce more stuff that we throw away, then buy some more, even if the old stuff is still working very well, just so they can have something to do and be paid for it. Something is wrong with this system.

About the chemicals we surround ourselves with : look around and you will find poison everywhere : the paint on the wall, the lacquer on the floor, on the furniture, the dish washing liquid, the air from the street on which thousands of cars pass each day. They are poisons, try to eat any of them and you will die. But we only inhale a little bit of everything so we do not die right away.

i've thought about stuff...

beyond the material goods there's lots of other stuff we can't get enough of

take for example 'jokes'... we will listen at length at jokes for whatever reason... but one must be truthfull and cateogorize entertainment as
just so much 'stuff'... do we need that sort of stuff rather than things like toasters and MP3s and hybrid autos... that are also stuff

music is more 'stuff', generally doled out in 3 minute episodes of the stuff that we wallow in for that short time----then forget about it as the next 3 minute episodic stuff pleasures us, or just blandly showers over our bodies and goes away, an inconsequential interlude in life.

thanks for the thought
