There are three differences between a 6,000 lb conventional bomb and a nuclear device.

The first, and largest, is magnitude. That 6,000lb bomb weighs (obviously) about 6,000 lbs. Unless the Chinese are building bombs a lot differently than the U.S., roughly 45% of the total weight is actual explosive (you need a fairly strong casing to hold the whole thing together until you *want* it to come apart), so you have about 2,700 lb of explosive, or approximately 0.00135 kilotons yield. Compare that to a U.S. W-88 nuclear device, that weighs less than 800 lbs, but has a yield of 475 kilotons. About 1/7th the weight, but around 352,000 times the yield.

The second difference is in thermal effect. Conventional weapons generate intense heat over a relatively small distance (a few yards, or tens of yards). Nuclear weapons generate thermal effects capable of inflicting burns to humans and damage to structures several miles (as opposed to yards) from the initiation point.

The third difference is radiological effects. A conventional weapon doesn't generate any measurable radiation, while a nuclear device can contaminate the ground around the initiation point for several months, and produce fallout that can travel surprising distances on upper-atmosphere winds...the magnitude of ground contamination and fallout will vary considerably depending on whether you're dealing with a ground burst or an air burst, but that's a different discussion.

But what gets me is the US with there weapons of mass destruction crap, doesnt this go in that category? But then again China did tell us if we told them they couldnt have weapons like that they would whoop our butts. I guess it scared the poop out of Bush because he shut up about China.

Seems we still complain quite a bit, when need arises.

i do believe china is making more nukes though
think about the two 094 subs they've recently shown in photos

pics show that 094 carries 12 launch tubes and if each JL missile on 094 can carry 3-5 nuclear warheads, then these two 094s alone can carry 72-120 warheads
so basically, that picture alone has already shown more nukes (that are capable of hitting north america) than many has believed before, which were around 20-40.
so, how many nukes does china have? how many is it still making? no body knows.


and about the 6000 pound bomb, i dont believe this technology is any new, i think china has made those over 30 years ago... more like an old piece of technology

Or is the Daisy Cutter a smaller guided bomb?

The Daisy Cutter is a little girl's bomb. The U.S. replaced it with the significantly more powerful M.O.A.B. Russia created the F.O.A.B., which is even more powerful still... and yet, it's smaller.
