Semp, Vista home premium DOES support dualcore processors (2 processing units in one chip.
What it does NOT support in multi-processors-2 or more chips/sockets like in servers.
If it helps, I have an acer with dual cores and 2 gigs ram, it is my work laptop.
As far as ultimate, I would have suspected it should have found all the drivers necessary.
Since it did/does not, you should go to the Acer website and look for a complete list of drivers for your model notebook.
You can see if there are different drivers for the different versions of Vista- I doubt it.
You might also want to see if your model unit supports ulitmate vista...really!!
You might need 2 gigs of ram to run that well.......
If all else fails, contact Acer-phone or email and ask them, no seriously. Who is supposed to know their products bette than them.
