Apparently, this seems to be the latest craze.

"Most of us send emails and texts everyday, so it comes as no surprise they are now being used to ditch someone -- however distasteful this is," said Rob Barnes from moneysupermarket.com, which carried out the survey.

No 'face to face'.
No weepy eyes.
No emotional outbursts.

Man oh man...what a cop-out.

Just text your breakup over the cellphone...and VOILA...your free and clear. Or are we?

Saw this in Least I Could Do. (If you don't already read the strip, it's heavy in crude sexual humor, as a warning.)
Strikes me as a lot of things, immature for one. When you leave someone, make it face to face. I've managed to leave on good terms with most of my ex's. Besides, over a text, it seems kinda... light, a joke or something.

Wow that is truly one of the most shocking things I have heard in a very long time. this is just as childish and disgraceful as breaking up with a note how immature can we possibly get? Oh the wonder of modern technology, at what point are people going to wake up and realize that human beings really do need to actually interact with other people physically.

Man that's cold!

But all is fair in love and war.

I was once dumped on valentines day while I was in college, such a bummer! My best mate at the time just cracked up. Friends can be so cruel. Fortunately I hadn't given her her gift (cheap ass neckless) I left it on the doorstep for my Sis.

My Sis still has it, never told her it was me, the silly mare grinned for weeks!!

I don’t know about break-ups because most of my ‘affairs’ faded away in time (much like high school buddies losing track of each other) and without the emotional baggage attached to my sensitive psyche. I prefer the visual communication compared to the audio one. This is because ‘seeing-is-believing’. And for those who would deny anything was ever said (verbally), there is this written proof via emailing, texting or chatting. So yeah, I’d text the ‘loser’ a break-up message. It’s quick and easy, really.

I absolutely adore text messaging, but I wouldn't break up with someone through it. My sons father broke up with me before through it. It was lame!

Maybe a teenager can get away with it, but in my world, say a man texts me to break up with me, i certainly hope his GPS is turned off. For his sake.

It's true, I have a couple of friends who have done this.

It's done in countries other than America. There was quite a row two years ago when a man (Muslim) divorced one of his wives by texting so he could take another wife.

There was all kinds of sand raised over this. I forget how it turned out, but the man wasn't happy with the results.

seriously though....

if some-one was too chickens**t, lacking in moral fibre to do the decent thing....

wouldn't writing a text to a 'friend' asking advice on how to let the partner know that although you still love them you....

now think of them as a brother/sister mother/father. lol

think you may be gay

have decided to try celibacy to help with your spiritual enlightenment.

.....and then 'accidentally' send it to the dumpee

be less cruel?

And make you look less chickens**t. lol

I tryed to do it that way (text message a break-up) because she was not around and would not answer her phone. When she did show up, she scrolled through the messages and told me I was an ass-hole. She said, "I have it all here, in black and white!". Of course what I actually wrote was no where as bad as she claimed I wrote. But I was a jerk (according to her, for making her feal like that) anyway.

If you cared enough to be with the person to begin with, have the common decency to break up with them in person, too.

Cowardly is the word I would use. Only a coward wouldn't have the sack to at least look in that persons eyes...

Texting someone to breakup is childish.
You think after high school you would be more sensitive to the feelings of the person you used to care about.
Breaking up is awful enough don't make it worse by making the other person feel their love meant nothing to you.
This is a low blow.
I wouldn't do it.
