Perhaps the most severe Vista problem one can encounter. To put it plainly, I can't delete it.

Got a new PC a couple months ago. It came with Vista. At first, I didn't mind the new OS and didn't understand why it was getting so many negative reviews.

A few months later I'm absolutley sick of it and the problems involved with it and would like to move on.. or move back to XP.

Thats when I discovered Vista can't be deleted.. as far as I know, atleast.

So am I wrong? Is there a way to get this... this VIRUS off my computer?

Just format your hard drive and install a new version of XP....

I did it and it worked just fine...

I did however go back to Vista after i upgraded to Premium and have just ordered "Ultimate"...

Anyway, if you format your hard drive and start clean you should have no problems...

I must be doing something wrong then. How does one format their hardrive. I'm sure I could find an answer quickly by googling it but for the sake of conversation, to format your hardrive don't you just type format C: in command prompt? When I do that I get a message that says "System partition is not allowed to be formatted."

Thanks for the help, I'll take a look around a little more.

You can't format the hard drive from the command prompt while the operating system is running.

Best of Luck

It's probably overkill and I am sure there are a hundred easier ways but here is how I do it...

I shut my machine down and pull the hard drive...

I connect the Hard Drive to a External HDD Box and hook it up to my laptop...

I can then go into "Computer Management" on the Laptop and format the Hard Drive....

Seems like a lot of work, but it always works for me...

ps.. A good external Hard Drive Case is around 35.00..USD... I use "Mad Dog"

Go into your BIOS and change the boot partition to CD/DVD drive and put your XP CD in the drive, reboot and choose to repartition/format the drive. Have a nice upgrade back to XP.

sar is correct, that IS the correct method.

That said, the first thing you must do is backup all your data you don't want to lose-music/video's/documents/pictures..............

After that, you need to identify all the hardware in your computer:
motherboard, sound card, video card ,nic card...........................

You will also want to have your antivirus and other protection software ready.

After you reinstall and get all the drivers in-remember to look for xp drivers, you can add your protection software.

Once that is done, you can add xp SP2 and direct x 9c-predownload them.

The first place you go when online is update all your security software...and reboot

when that is all done, you can get the 50 billion-hehe- microsoft updates.

I hope this helps.
