I hereby present a little history lesson, not conspiracy but history:

writting by: Phil Gasper, a professor of Philosophy at Notre Dame de Namur University, and a member of the International Socialist Organization in San Francisco.

Afghanistan, the CIA, bin laden

a few lines from the reading:

About the russians in afghanistan back then

According to the official version of history, CIA aid to the mujahideen began during 1980, that is to say, after the Soviet army invaded Afghanistan [in] December 1979. But the reality, secretly guarded until now, is completely otherwise: indeed, it was July 3, 1979, that President Carter signed the first directive for secret aid to the opponents of the pro-Soviet regime in Kabul. And that very day, I wrote a note to the president in which I explained to him that in my opinion this aid was going to induce a Soviet military intervention.... We didn't push the Russians to intervene, but we knowingly increased the probability that they would....

Beginning in 1985, the CIA supplied mujahideen rebels with extensive satellite reconnaissance data of Soviet targets on the Afghan battlefield, plans for military operations based on the satellite intelligence, intercepts of Soviet communications, secret communications networks for the rebels, delayed timing devices for tons of C-4 plastic explosives for urban sabotage, and sophisticated guerrilla attacks, long-range sniper rifles, a targeting device for mortars that was linked to a U.S. Navy satellite, wire-guided anti-tank missiles, and other equipment.

One of the first non-Afghan volunteers to join the ranks of the mujahideen was Osama bin Laden, a civil engineer and businessman from a wealthy construction family in Saudi Arabia, with close ties to members of the Saudi royal family. Bin Laden recruited 4,000 volunteers from his own country and developed close relations with the most radical mujahideen leaders. He also worked closely with the CIA, raising money from private Saudi citizens. By 1984, he was running the Maktab al-Khidamar, an organization set up by the ISI to funnel "money, arms, and fighters from the outside world in the Afghan war."

Read the article for further knowledge. prox: 20 minuts read.

Us who are old enough to remember the cold war, already knows this but I think somewhere down the line we seemed to forget.

An "upread" on history sometimes help putting todays events into another perspective.

I hope you will read this and comment on it.

Enjoy

Very, very good OP, Bluess. Yes, even if there's no oil in Afghanistan it's about oil. Pipelines, and where they go the traffic routes of substances go.

It's not only about oil, it's about opium, again blooming wide and far on the ragged slopes and plains of Afghanistan. I think that was the real 'crime' of Taliban, they deprived CIA of an essential funding.

I think your OP should be in WoT forum though, your subject is better served there.

Thank you very much, I agree with you on the Opium aswell.

I have read several conspiracies regating U.S, NWO etc. And i often find them lacking theese historical facts.

I'm not quite sure what you mean by "Footnote", as everything can be read in the article?

I've got an open challenge running for anyone to debunk the video on this thread...

It's a great piece and goes into alot of detail that is related to this thread. Oh the tangled webs we weave.

two stellar books for research:

Charlie Wilson's War (movie coming out this month if you don't like to read). this book details the largest CIA covert operation ever undertaken. The arming and training of the mujhadeen to fight the soviets. An excellent book.

The Looming Tower: this one details the path to the WTC attacks. Bin Laden's involvement in Afghanistan during the soviet fighting is covered extensively. Seems Osama was hated by the afghan warriors and viewed more like a rich kid looking for a thrill than a true holy warrior.

In Charlie Wilson's War you read about many of the players involved in the 9/11 attacks. Osama is barely mentioned in the book because he was a non-factor in the war against the soviets.

Thread reminds me of the controversial track by Immortal Technique & Mos Def, 'bin Laden.' Check some of these lyrics:

The Patriot Act'll track you to the type of your blood
They try to frame you, and say you was tryin' to sell drugs
And throw a federal indictment on # to show you love
This # is run by fake Christians, fake politicians
Look at they mansions, then look at the conditions you live in
All they talk about is terrorism on television
They tell you to listen, but they don't really tell you they mission
They funded Al-Qaeda, and now they blame the Muslim religion
Even though bin Laden, was a CIA tactician
They gave him billions of dollars, and they funded his purpose
Fahrenheit 9/11, that's just scratchin' the surface.
