I often find myself concentrating really hard on absolutely nothing, and for a second...it almost feels as if I can "escape"...somehow!

. . . thought it was just me
; exhausted with solid-world-bashing from all the healthy, normal people around me who have all the answers and live fulfilling lives, so I dared not discuss this one (offline, anyway...)

Everything seems so artificial of late, and it's getting worse for me, in a disturbingly subtle way. I was looking at a Shell gas station last night with all the pretty bright lights, the crisp brilliant canary-yellow & white architecture, the omnipresent music piping from slightly-hidden speakers, thinking how much like a movie-set it appeared. But then, what is a movie set but an emulation of something real?

Real . . .

We're not an experiment we're a reality TV show. Don't you watch South Park? The Joosians, the aliens responsible for the intergalactic TV syndicate, are about to cancel the reality show called Earth. Last episode is scheduled for sometime in 2012.

Lately I've been feeling like everything is fake too and that we are just machines (got that machines idea from kurt vonnegut).

I think it might be a symptom of like an overly industrialised society with lots of consumer goods and synthetic everything.

On the other hand, I've been learning about genes. So much in our lives is up to our genes, and evolution to me seems like this ever self improving mechanism/machine type thing.

Also I wonder what sort of effect additives and pesticides and such have on us. Could we adapt to them or could they change the way we will continue to evolve?

And if they can change the behaviour of children so drastically then what do they do to the rest of us?

I've been concerned of late that we are the fateful A.I. that we often collectively speculate might one day exist. Consider:

If the Universe is infinitely old, and species are ancient and technologically advanced, what might be the ceiling, if you will, on what a given advanced species could create? Could the field of alien bio-mechanics have evolved over a few hundred-thousand years to produce what we call a human being? I mean, just look how far humanity has come in a few thousand years of recorded scientific study. If ET had a contributing hand in our development, then it likely sped things up, but it's still only been a relatively short evolutionary period, yet we have walking talking robots now, and that's just what the consumer has been informed of.

How much more developed the accomplishments of an advanced race?

And why do we feel so trapped here on this beautiful earth? Not everyone, but those who do feel it immensely, I perceive, and I would be counted among this group. At night I'm often twinkle-counting in the sky, and sometimes find myself in a secret yearning for a ship to swoop in or a wormhole to materialize and somehow whisk me away from here to a life of excitement and galactic grandeur.

I have so had it with the corporate-Matrix version of society, now, it almost doesn't even matter if it's the Greys.

* but almost never counts! *

Heres an off the wall theory.Maybe the aliens have created us to pollute the planet in such a way so that it will become habitable to them. Please dont believe this I just wanted to add something.

The creditability of this forum depends solely on not just its OP's postings, but the replies it receives. While some postings may from time to time conjure up irrelevant comments does not mean we should immediately debunk or disqualify its original question/idea. In all fairness, we should treat even the most simplistic question as our own, for I am sure we all have unanswered questions that we feel is not yet the time to ask!

All my life I have asked questions that those around me have taken for granted and have learned far more as a result of this. Even a simplistic answer can often reveal more than what was originally intended. It is rare we can ask a question and be handed the answer on a silver platter without considering the constructive replys from many different sources.

Yes Lex, ATS does get better and better but only because of its contributions towards constructive comments and questions.

In reply to the O.P's question, personally I believe our plant is nothing out of the ordinary, that we are a new kid on the block with more questions than answers right now. While it would be great if we are special in some way, perhaps the real answer is that we share an existence that is considered 'normal' within the vast expanse of the cosmos where anything is possible.

Kind Regards

Mark
