The "Shard" was the first object spotted by Hoagland on frame LO-III-84M. Sticking some 1.5 miles above the Lunar surface, it is truly an inexplicable (by current theories) wonder of the universe. Casting a shadow across the Lunar plane, alignment with the local vertical rather than the "grain" of the film, and it's proximity to the "Tower" all argue strongly for it's artificial origin. Although no cross-confirming images of the "Shard" have been found, it's vicinity to the "Tower", which has been cross-confirmed, is a factor favoring it's existence as a "real" object. It has been suggested that the "Shard" may be a transient "out gassing" event. While this cannot be totally discounted, the absence of any "spray" around the "Shard's" sharply defined edges work against this explanation.

A volcanic event on the moon allowed trapped gases and other compounds to event above the surface, but the cold atmosphere quickly cooled the outer core of the gaseous plume, while maintaining a hotter inner core, periodically the spire would spurt a hot jet of material from the top and it would cool forming a lunar stalagmite.

Who knows what the material composition of it is or even if its still there. But at 1.5 Miles that thing is huge. Low G's on the surface allow for some pretty amazing things to happen

Why hasn't Hoagland commented upon the clearly seen, very real anomaly of that small organically-shaped object with the 'horns' protruding upward that we've all been wondering about here lately?

Hoagland and his minons continually inflate the most imaginative, absurd, and unlikely artifacts yet here is an example of something REAL that he ignores.

I always wonder if Hoagland isn't deliberately trying to give those of us with an interest in these subjects a bad name. Does he get paid by the NSA or NASA to be a buffoon?

Atmosphere?

yes atmosphere what minimal amount there is. there is some gravity, therefore whatever gasoues vapors may come off the planet are somewhat held in suspension in a loose "atmosphere"
