A large-scale, coordinated campaign to steer users toward malware-spewing Web sites from Google search results is under way, security researchers said Tuesday.

While the article seems to suggest that Google isn't in on this scheme, it honestly wouldn't surprise me to find out that they are.

At the very least, seems like the Google "geniuses" need to rework their system a bit and start thinking about the "customer" some.

You know, like Microsoft hahahaha

I was wondering what was going on with this. Just today, I had it happen with both Google and Yahoo searches. I thought I had some spyware on my rig redirecting my searches or something.

Google has made quite a few enemies. Apple, AT&T, and Verizon are certainly nervous.

However this just reminds me of when META tag abuse was a problem. Google has some of the best carpal-tunnel ridden geeks to be had. They'll defeat these lusers.

Yeah they'll fix it.

They were targeted because they are the predominant search engine on the net... it's not surprising. Kind of like why M$ is targeted. But M$ is hated because of their unfair business practices, not because they're successful. Meh... don't even get me started on that path...

Anyway, on topic:

Those pages have had their Google ranking boosted by crooked tactics that include "comment spam" and "blog spam," where bots inundate the comment areas of sites with links or mass large numbers of them as bogus blog posts.

This isn't much different than the old Google bomb trick, isn't it?

If the user doesn't bite, the page's IFRAME will get him, said Thomas.

NoScript would stop this, wouldn't it? I'm not certain... but they usually use the IFRAME to load embedded JavaScript commands.... so....

Not too different at all.

On a related note, this is one possible reason why MySpace may be encoding outbound URLs in base64 and redirecting links through www.msplinks.com. MySpace started this practice shortly after being bought by News Corp and then paid by Google nearly a billion dollars for advertising rights. While this helps cut down on Google spam, it also makes it more difficult for MySpace users to decide whether or not to click on a link - they can't see where it goes anymore.

My ex couldn't get through to myspacelayout.com tonight. She kept getting redirected to a porn site. She couldn't figure out what was happening until I told her about this thread. I'm sure she was about to blame me, lol. Thanks to ATS, I dodged that bullet.

I think it's possible, if not likely that alot of these highly publicized cyber attacks are false flag operations to justify the trendy new telecommunications clampdown. There's piles and piles of new legislation just waiting to curtail your internet and restore control of this new media to the fat cats.

The GPhone will offer free mobile services. All you have to do is tolerate advertisements, which is what has made Google rich. They are targeting the teenager market as they recognize adults are more likely to just pay for a subscription than waste time listening to commercials.

Google is also porting their mobile operating system to work on a plethora of mobile devices, competing with Windows Mobile (CE) and PalmOS. There are even rumors that it will be open source.

I would not be a bit surprised if the twerps who have manipulated the googlebots are hired e-mercenaries. Or perhaps they're iMercenaries.
