As somone who has spent plenty of time in the District, and has friends in the roughest 'hoods in the City, let me just tell you how absurd this law
really is. You cannot walk the streets with a gun, whether it be concealed or open carry, loaded or unloaded. You cannot possess a gun in your
vehicle, whether it be cocnealed, or open carry, loaded or unloaded. You cannot even possess a gun within your own residence, property, or person
whether it be concealed, or in plain sight, unless that gun is unloaded, AND has a lock on it with the ammunition locked somewhere else.
Real good that does, let someone break into your home so you can club them to death with a .12 Gauge. You might as well jump out your bedroom window
and run to a payphone.
D.C. is the Murder Capitol, with a Homicide Rate even higher than Kingston, Jamaica. On any given night I can be on the phone talking to a friend, and
hear gunshots rattling off in the background. One of my friends had a guy standing next to her get blasted in broad daylight on his front porch. The
violence is no joke, the guns are everywhere, cops corrupt and lazy, and yet who are the individuals/victims not allowed to protect themselves? Law
abiding citizens. We have a city where Ambulances can take 30-40 minutes to show up just because the dispatcher is more concerned with whether or not
a bleeding victim is drunk in the street, as opposed to dying. One cop witnessed a blind guy get pummeled by a car while tryng to cross a street
Downtown. What did he do? He walked over and wrote the guy a Jaywalking ticket, meanwhile the guy died.
The gun Ban has been in effect for over 30 years, and what has occured? The Murder rate skyrocketed and has yet to settle down. Everyone has become a
victim if not a murderer, and yet we are still left with debating whether or not the victims will have the chance to become self-defenders. It is a
completely rediculous argument, as obvious common sense would point to the fact that allowing lawful gun ownership could do no more harm than the ban
itself did in the first place.
The guns are going to flow through the streets regardless of legal ownership. The only citizens being denied the right to defend themselves are those
who wish to obey the law. Since when does obeying the law bring about punishment?
