Terror police shot man in coma

news.bbc.co.uk

A man who had gone into a diabetic coma on a bus in Leeds was shot twice with a Taser gun by police who feared he may have been a security threat.
Armed police were called to the bus depot in Headingley and when he failed to respond to their challenges he was shot with the Taser.
He said as this was happening, another officer was pointing a real gun at his head.

This is happening so much we might as well have a thread where we can post em all in, like the $$$-per-barrel-of-oil one.

He was restrained and eventually came round in the police van.
He said it was only then that the officers realised it was a medical emergency, despite him wearing a medical tag round his neck to warn of his condition, and took him to hospital.
Mr Gaubert said he was told the police believed he looked "Egyptian".

What more is there to say. At least they aren't using real guns?

Indeed!

With the recent cases of people being tasered, ATS could create a forum specifically for it and the thread would be over a page within a days' time.

This issue, in particular, is disgusting.

IKN, this guy failed to respond to there orders. I think he had what was coming to him. Maybe next time, he'll bring a candy bar and some insulin.

(sarcasm)

Cheers,

Camain

Do you think they first yelled, "He's coming right at us!"

This is not negligence, or irresponsibility. This is not cruel, inhumane, or overreaching.

This is just sporking stupid.

I suppose you are not a diabetic. If you were you would have a better knowledge of the subject and could speak intellegently about it.

Diabeties is a major killer of humans and is getting more prevelant among children.

It is a very serious matter. A life or death matter at times.

I suggest you reserch the subject so you will have a better understanding of how the disease works.

I'm sure you meant no harm but your comments came off as uncaring and cold.

I am diabetic and have been in the same situation the man in the coma was in. Thankfully he didn't die.

Peace,
dizzie

I think he meant that as the cops attitude. At least that's the way I took it. And I have family members with it, so I'm as aware as most of what it's like. As a matter of fact, I have a nephew on dialysis.

One of the many things that make this particular event so atrocious is that cops are trained to recognize diabetic emergencies. They had to learn it when the media got ahold of the fact that diabetics were being pulled over for "drunk driving" and thrown in jail where they died. Diabetics will often have "fruity breath" which was seen as "alcoholic breath", stuporous response (if responsive at all) which was seen as "falling down drunk" and other symptoms mistaken for drunkeness. They certainly should have known better. And what a bunch of wusses to be so afraid of a non-responsive brown-skinned man that they have to taser him twice and threaten him with a loaded pistol before they decide to act like cops. Are they recruiting gang-bangers freshly released from prison these days?

We've got a snoring man on a bus full of witnesses! Better call for backup! Wait. Let me shoot him a coupla times first...just to be safe.

Annoys me that although this guy was wearing a medical tag around his neck. Why the hell did they not even check him for id or anything?? Not5 until he was in the back of the police van... Which to me is kinda ridiculous. Gets me also why none off these officers were charged at all.

Surely no one is above the law, just as with the shooting of the brazillian, the police get away with too much these days. And no it is not a witch hunt. These officers were neglegent in the prodedures they carried out, with reagrds to this inidividual. (Does not matter weither they were under stress due to the terroists attacks). They have failed in their duties.

Wonder who's backside they kissed in the C.P.S. so they would be charged over this.

Lets hope some of those officers involved are disciplined or even sacked. If not if I was this guy, take out a civil law suit against the Police Officers involved.
