Does anyone else get the feeling these UFO events at the National Press Club are just elaborate marketing efforts on the part of profit-seeking
individuals?
In this case, it is being used as a platform to promote the Out of the Blue documentary. And Dr. Greer certainly used it as a springboard from which to catapult himself to cult-leader status.
These things seem like attempts to market something for profit, by trying to leverage the air of credibility one gets by holding a press conference at the National Press Club -- which really isn't that big of a deal anyway.

The following video may change your thinking a bit. I post a link to the video here at ATS every once in a while, but the Greer folks are frantically scouring the Internet and taking the clips down as fast as they can (you'll see why) - so take a look before it's gone again. I have to search long and hard to find copies - it's been long removed from YouTube/Yahoo/GoogleVideo (except about 45 innocent teaser seconds).
The full video is of Greer speaking at the Feb 2007 Conscious Life Expo in L.A. It's 1:47, so you may want to let the whole thing buffer, then scan forward. The best stuff, (Greer levitating, riding a spaceship, "gay" planets, etc.) starts at about the 1/4 mark.
The website is German, but the video you want to see (in English) is about 1/2 way down the page, entitled: "Practical Applications Unbounded Mind Part 1 Conscious Life Expo 2007".
