hi all! ive been lurking around your boards for a few months now and finally decided to join the community! any way, this topic im about to address i would like to hear all spectrums of explanations of.. weather it be scientific or spiritual. hopefully i can find some people that fall under the same pattern and know where im coming from.

around the 2nd or 3rd grade i had a teacher that told us a little folk tale. i cant repeat the exact words of it because it seems like a little bit of one of those far out ones. the basics of the story is theres a child that pretty much a child that wont obey his parents (they make a threat to him each time he defies them saying something along the lines of " if you dont do it old billy bones,(or some crap,) will come.") oddly enough the last threat they say to him is if he sleeps at the foot of his bead old whatever will come. the boy disobeys by sleeping at the foot of his bed and the monster dude comes; as punishment the monster shrinks the boy into a spec and his mom wipes him off the counter (not knowing it was him.)

now you can interpret the story in many different ways, like many. some ways you can say its about defiance, but when i was a child it installed a really stupid fear for me. i found it odd the last offense the child was punished for was for sleeping at the foot of his bed.

tonight when i tried sleeping i was laying where i usually did, at the foot of the bed. now when i had trouble sleeping as a kid at the head i would move to the foot of the bed, it just feels different and im sure most of you have done this. however, ive realized that when i have a female with me i end up sleeping at the head of my bed, and when im alone i sleep at the foot. ive switched positions so many times alone that by now i dont really get that feeling any more but if i was to do that with some one else in my bed im sure the feeling would return.

any way, to make a long question short i was wondering if your great minds have any reasons that i (or other people) dog this, or maybe the symbolism. do many of you switch back and forth and fall under this same pattern? hope to hear some things back.

thanks for reading!

The possible explanation is magnetic fields...

The Fen Shui (sp?) stuff, for example, says that one should sleep with one's head pointing 0 degrees (North).

This probably has to do with your brain and the poles - the magnetic fields help the fluctuation (sp?) of your nerve messages, letting the brain relax.
