Feds Strike ID Deal Over NY Licenses for illegal immigrants

The Bush administration and New York agreed Saturday on a compromise creating a more secure driver's license for U.S. citizens and allowing illegal immigrants to get a version.


New York is the fourth state to reach such an agreement, after Arizona, Vermont and Washington. The issue is pressing for border states, where new and tighter rules are soon to go into effect for crossings.

Sheesh what next, social secuirty numbers too?. While I favor improving the immigration situation, rewarding thos ein the country illegaly with a drivers licens hardly makes sence to me. Fix the problem, not add these types of bandaids.

I thought Spitzer would be a bad governor, but I didn't imagine he'd be as bad as he turned out to be. Hopefully he'll be a one-termer.

Well over the year or so I have gained a greater understanding of American culture thanks in part to a thread on AP. But I don't think I will understand why any one would support mass illegal immigration little alone giving those law breakers a drivers licence. No matter what there motives are illegal aliens are still breaking US law.
Other then corporate greed I cant fathom why anybody would want to encourage foreigners to break US law .

Citizenship and permanent residency in a country should valued above all else . Currently both are being devalued in the US by mass immigration . The way things stand US citizenship my as well be given away by stamping peoples hands at the border.

Very very very few Americans actually support mass amounts illegal immigration and you would be surprised at how many Americans are even opposed to large amounts of legal immigration as well.

Its mostly the big business groups, the wealthy and those who in some way profit from illegal immigration/mass legal immigration. In turn these people are the ones who often fund political campaigns hence the reason why many politicians are vocal in support of illegal immigration and/or refuse to to measures to stop it.

About 3/4ths of New Yorkers are against this proposal for illegals' drivers' licenses, yet our idiot governor still wants it.

And on top of it he has the nerve to tell us that were are ignorant and "misguided" in our efforts to stop his proposal.

Just how can this guy sleep at night knowing that what he is doing will kill/injure many NYers and cause more problems then it solves?
