Sleep Paralysis

en.wikipedia.org...

Sleep paralysis is a condition characterized by temporary paralysis of the body shortly after waking up (known as hypnopompic paralysis) or, less often, shortly before falling asleep (known as hypnagogic paralysis).[1]

Physiologically, it is closely related to the paralysis that occurs as a natural part of REM (rapid eye movement) sleep, which is known as REM atonia. Sleep paralysis occurs when the brain awakes from a REM state, but the bodily paralysis persists. This leaves the person fully aware, but unable to move. In addition, the state may be accompanied by hypnagogic hallucinations.

More often than not, sleep paralysis is believed by the person affected by it to be no more than a dream.[citation needed] This explains many dream recountings which describe the person lying frozen and unable to move. The hallucinatory element to sleep paralysis makes it even more likely that someone will interpret the experience as a dream, since completely fanciful, or dream-like, objects may appear in the room alongside one's normal vision.

I agree with AAC. More than likely sleep paralysis. Probably happens to Alien abductees as well, but we have no real proof of it.

Sleep Paralysis defo...I know that feeling

It can cause panic responses and I certainly, when a child, believed something was holding me down ..the bogey man...!!

It is my thinking that personal beliefs fill in the gaps, in order to try to make sense of it. So alien believers think they are abducted and believers of spirit think they are being possessed...by a demon or maybe a succubus.!!

Not saying that S.P. is the source of ALL alien / spirit experiences but goes towards some of them.

Also as I see it, S.P. has only "recently" been accepted / discovered so who knows what else the brain / mind interface has in store?

It could be that all so called paranormal experiences are the result of yet to be discovered mind functions and defects. There again maybe not. There is no tangible way of proving it...as yet, so we are left with belief or delusion. Both strong enough to build expensive churches and mosques

Believer or sceptic you can believe but you can't know..imho.

Some people will dismiss it as common sleep paralysis, but since there's no known mechanism that explains it, you might as well say that demons are trying to get into your brain and are disrupting your neural processes as a result.

Demons. Not very powerful demons, though, so don't worry.
