Man levitates outside the White House

www.news.com.au
NBC Video Here

DUTCH magician Ramana has been doing his best to freak out American people by levitating in Times Square and in front of the White House.

The illusionist, real name Wouter Bijdendijk, hovered several feet above the pavement with apparent ease. His only "prop" was a stick that he held with his left hand.

Im amazed, although the skeptic in me, tells me its a trick/fake/fugazi.
I remember as a child going to a magician who did a similar 'act' to an assistant of his, although this time his assistant was laying on her back.
What I remember distinctly, is that in all these levitation 'acts' a stick or some kind of heavy rod is always present.
I did a bit of youtube'in and after searching for "Dutch Levitate" I found Ramana at it again.
Yet again his stick was present in his left hand, and so was his little mat. The video also shows that when he is 'setting' up his act an assistant covers him up with a rug, not to give away his trick.

IMO Levitation is impossible without some kind of NASA device, namely the "acoustic levitation chamber" or a massive magnet

Do you think its real? Apparently the India Government does.

I'd be very impressed if the vid showed him laying out that rug and then getting on with it.

Just from that there could easily be a large plate under the rug (apx the same dimensions of the flowers) and the pole solidly fixed to it. I'm not that impressed really.

I've seen amateur magicians "levitate" assistants and it's very clear to me that they are hanging from a device of some sort that's dangling from a cable because the magicians use the same technique and principle as the " linked rings"trick .

This one baffles me tho'

thats just about how it is done.
He is sitting on a one legged stool, to which the leg is secured to the, or into the ground. The leg is often carved or shaped to look like a cane or walking stick.
Truly one of the 'oldest' tricks in the book.

No Magic there, move along...

Bingo. I watched a video of a British gentleman who was trying to discredit an Indian Fakihr because the holy man was conning people out of money, and he proved that the holy man was doing his levitation the exact same way you described.

If people could really levitate at will, they would win the Nobel Peace Prize, including every physics award out there for finding a way to break the laws of physics on Earth.

Anyone who levitates would also drift away from you considering the Earth's rotation and orbit. You would see them floating away at the same speed as Earth's orbit, minus air resistance.

I have seen people moving object, and bending spoons on TV.. A bit like that movie Phenomenon. This must be in the same realm? as levitation, or are they fakes too?

If not, why haven't they won a Nobel Peace Prize. Oh
Isnt the Noble Peace prize meant to go to somebody that brings peace between nations, not a magician.
Ok, Lets settle on the Physics award.

It's meant for not only peace but awards scientists, writers, and other people for establishing a well known cause or effort on helping the world. Al Gore won it recently, but he hasn't done anything to bring peace to this world

Oops, that stick is pretty well anchored... it would NOT be easy to pull it away.

We need more magicians secrets revealed...

Tesla never levitated but he stood on a million volt high frequency
charged metal plate that put electrical flames all around the outline of
his garments.

You might be thinking of the "Nobel Prize in Physics", not the "Nobel Peace Prize" which AlGore did win,
"for their efforts to build up and disseminate greater knowledge about man-made climate change, and to lay the foundations for the measures that are needed to counteract such change"

Ah you're right. No more writing for me at 1 am anymore >_<

Still, the only "award" the man claims to have won is being draped with a golden blanket in India. It couldn't have been for this trick, since it's a widely used con in India to get people to pay a false holy man money to cure their sickness, ward off evil/poverty, or give them a blessing.

Here is his website.

ramana.nl

Unfortunately it's in Dutch. Apparently there is a school for such magicians/illusionists in India.

Yea that wasn't real, and I know criss angel wasn't real the first time I saw him also. All my friends believed it, and then I showed them youtube
. They were so sad afterwards. At first I didn't think I could prove it false, till I looked criss angel up on youtube.

Has anybody got the Criss Angel You tube Links? Or should I not be so lazy and do a search

Here's the same principle applied, except the wall is the anchor, not the ground. However, in order for it to work, your zipper must be down.

Maybe the should give a prize to the guy who kicks the stick out from under him and exposes him as a fraud. Upload that to youtube.

Maybe the world needs a Bullcrap Artist and Hoakster award.

I know who I would nominate for the first one, and it's not the levitating swami.
