CUMMING, Ga. — With water supplies rapidly shrinking during a drought of historic proportions, Gov. Sonny Perdue declared a state of emergency Saturday for the northern third of Georgia and asked President Bush to declare it a major disaster area.

Georgia officials warn that Lake Lanier, a 38,000-acre reservoir that supplies more than 3 million residents with water, is less than three months from depletion. Smaller reservoirs are dropping even lower.

State and federal regulations are there for a reason. But I think when peoples lives are in danger, the government needs to loosen these regulations and take care of its people. Water is very important issue now, and will only get more important as sources all around the world dry up.

Good!!!

Not that Georgia is in a state of crisis, but that now, maybe people can see how absolutely ridiculous the Endagered Species Act really is. When animals become more important than people, our world will have become quite a mess.

The Army Corps of Engineers doesn't believe it is, but then again many may doubt their reliability after what happened in New Orleans.
