Do a search ehre. This picture has been posted several times before as "alien fish" or something like that. I can't recall the name, but it is a naturally occuring fish...it is ugly though.

Your avatar's aquatic cousin!

Seriously though, we had this up a couple months back and it was found to be a fairly rare coral living fish that dwells off Australia and Indonesia I think it was.

Australia and New Zealand seem to be God's gallery of the funny looking and strange. Heck just ponder the great bizarreness of our own Net Chicken! Then you have Cassowaries, Ostriches, Emus, Kangaroos, Wallobees, etc...

PEACE...

Here are some odd looking fish:

This one is hard to make out but, it's a long nosed Bat Fish:

Antennarius pictus

Here is a very strange fish family, belonging to the class Osteichthyes (bony fishes) and to the order Lophiiformes. It includes animals almost unable to swim, very slow moving, extremely specialised for ambush predation. They are a perfect subject for fish watching and photography, because they are very slow and often, unaware of divers, they behave normally... only it is not easy to see them. Absolute stillness, and a cryptic colour, make it practically invisible. In our area, Lembeh strait is a very good site for frog fish-watching

I would have to say that the flounder is the most disturbing looking fish with its eyes on one side of its face

And a Baracuda would be the scariest.

i agree, the ocean cover 2/3 rds of the earths surface. once you take that into account, think of how deep it can get, and how much there is undiscoverd or unwatched. there could be anything there. i bet there are more undiscovered species in the ocean than in the jungle. :

Springer...Ostriches!? THATS AFRICA! LoL
But yeah, Baked...The last 3 fish are diferent types of ugly/frog/angler Fish. They are the fastest creatures alive. NO JOKES. They sit at the bottom of the water & when prey swims by it opens its speciallised mouth sucking in water & blasting it out gills & stuff. This creates a vacuum sucking its prey in. Some even have phosphorus creating bacteria that makes it glow & attract its prey. Also, another wierd thing about it is that if its limbs or angler gets damaged, it can regenerate it in just a few hours.

Interesting Newspaper article

dreamrebel, that pic has left me mentally scarred for life!! I shall never dream a pleasant sea dream again!!! haha. God. Look on the left fin in the picture, is that a wasp on it??? That fish looks like a goblin from lord of the rings. But how do you excuse the pure red satanic eyes??? I've never seeen any creature in my life with red eyes. Maybe this is some distant cousin to the stone(d) fish lol.
