I was wondering what you fellas thought of the idea of magic. I wonder if there is any real magic or if its all a myth. i recently watched David Blaine street magic and it got me thinking, some of the the things he did i couldnt explain. I was just wondering what some of you thought about magic if it exists or not in any form. Thanks

Define 'magic'. You could mean Voodoun, Wicca, or any number of others things.

"magic' is a label for the unexplainable. You want to see some things that defy explination? head down New Orleans way and watch someone get mounted by a loa.

In voodoun ceremonies, it isn't uncommon for a loa (spirit) to 'mount' a person. Mounting is liek possesion, but in a more....positive way. There are quite a number of loa, and as long as no petro houngans or mambos decide to fool with things, than usually it isn't a bad thing. I'd explain more, but it's 4 in the morning where I am.

Voodoun FAQ

Short list of Loa

Petro, by the way, is loosely translated as "corrupt". Therefore, a petro houngan is a houngan who summons corrupt loa and practices black magic.

David Blaine's secrets were exposed by the Masked Magician on a Fox TV special. You can find many sites and books that claim they have figured out how he performs his tricks.

Here is a very interesting link, that provides instructions on how to perform tricks like David Blaine.

They way I see it there are two separate words to be applied to this discussion. The first is "Magic" which is to be connected with acts such as Blaine, Copperfield, etc. The second is "Magick" which usually refers to things of a more supernatual than trickery and slight of hand. I put more stock in Magick than some fool on stage, because he is decieving you by slight of hand, smoke and mirrors. I would think Voodoun, Wicca, and perhaps the more extrodianry parts of Shamanism would qualify as Magick rather than Magic, if any of this even makes any sense.
