I've seen many talks about Area 19 in various places and I've been curious to where the coordinates were. I couldn't find any coordinates posted anywhere on the site so I went playing around with Google Earth. I was wondering if anyone would have any knowledge to what this location is and if it could be Area 19.

The coordinates are: 37.405559, -116.23763

The Google Maps URL is: Area 19

It looks like there is a runway there with aircraft and other vehicles around.

A note for whoever the webmaster is, I've noticed that the url tag bbcode breaks if someone is posting a link to coordinates. I would suggest using these regular expressions to prevent that from happening.

Pattern: \[url\](.*?)\[/url\]
Replace: <a href="$1">$1</a>

Pattern: \[url=(.*?)\](.*?)\[/url\]
Replace: <a href="$1">$2</a>

For auto hyperlinking:

Pattern: \b(http\:\/\/[\w+\.]+[\w+\.\:\/\@\_\?\=\&\-\'\#\%\~\;\,\$\!\+\*]+)
Replace: <a href="$1">$1</a>

Hope that helps

Area 19 is roughly
N37.28940 W116.30084
The power line ends at
N37.35051 W116.32118

If pulling this information off of topo maps, so the google imagery may be slightly off.

I've contemplated adding google earth community markings for this stuff, but they would be in a sea of wrong markings. For example, there are quite a few nuclear explosion designations that are clearly off the NTS. Yes, I know there are two off site explosions (Faultness and Project 57) off the NTS, but that isn't what I'm ranting about. For example, look at
N37.794345 W115.930659
That is way off the NTS.

Thanks for your input. I guess the coordinates are slightly off in Google Earth, I was unable to locate the power lines. Do you know what the land I posted is used for?

I think you are looking at the Korean Airfield. Invest a bit of money and read Sierra Hotel. You can read it as a pdf for free if you have the patience to read an entire book at a computer:
www.airforcehistory.hq.af.mil...
Of course, buying the book feeds the kitty of the author.

The book goes into the history of the Nellis range and has the famed Jeremiah Weed story in it. The tail number of the plane in the book is wrong. I have the FOIA from the crash. [I have no explanation why the tail number is wrong.]

If you go to the Little Aleinn, they have a bottle of Jeremiah Weed behind the counter, though few behind the bar know the story. Those that do know the story have the wrong crash site. [Remember, there are lots of crashed planes around the range.] To the best of my knowledge, the bar in the Jeremiah Weed story is the abandoned casino at the intersection of 93 and 318, not the Little Aleinn.

I haven't read the other post, but I have taken the tour of the NTS a few times and have inquired about Area 19. The story is it was used for high yield tests, hence a location further away from Vegas.

Area 19 is very hard to observe from "free territory". I believe you would have to hike Kawich near the TTR. I haven't done any computer line of sight analysis on this, but will put it on the list.
