They won't force you into behaving responsibly towards the environment, they'll just tax you into doing it. Let the market speak!!!

Now I can agree with that dbates

centurion ... I guess your HANDLE and avatar explain your confrontational aggressiveness

You believe you got my point, but you still missed it completely.

I find your assumptions about me quite amusing! You are a riot
Where do you get the idea I am a student? I do plan to go back to college though for an EALL degree
If you think that avatar is me, you are mistaken ... that is a musical artist. Where do you get the inclination that I am not living and dealing with reality? As far as my handle or site name ... an ideal is just that, and, it takes at least one person to have it and spread it before things get better. Without idealists that think freely, the u.s.a. wouldn't exist. Segregation would still be a part of society. We have come a long way, but we still have far to go.

I think you fit a libertarian quite well. Let us lift all regulations on businesses, we should let them dump chemicals in the water, it is freedom! I only advocate PERSONAL responsibility, not government mandated. I implore you to choose to be conservative, hey, even conservative socially as well as conservative in an energy efficient way. BTW, I don't relate conservative to republican, it is a state of mind, not a political affiliation. (and socialism isn't communism ... it is more of a moneyless society like in fiction ... the creator of Star Trek has the same ideal and he was a u.s. law officer who served and protected citizens of this nation)

I have not said that doing all the 'green' things cures global warming. The trends could very well be solar activity, passing the galactic center, etc causing our earthly changes. Reduced magnetism, a coming pole shift. Who knows ... I suppose you agree that science doesn't

I think you still have a misconception. Is it green, or is it green? I may use fluorescent bulbs, I think about 14 of my bulbs have been changed over. But guess what, they last longer and cost less to run ... I had one socket that went through an incandescent every week or two, it has been the same fluorescent for more than a year now, I would say it has paid for itself since I buy the cheap ones. It saves me money on the electric bill, albeit a small amount. I learned with my first CRX that getting 30-50 mpg saves a lot of money compared to 10-20 mpg of the other vehicles I owned ... on the order of thousands a year to still get from point a to point b. Wait, so did you mean green by saving more money so I have more to spend on more stuff I want? It seems to be the case for me.

I don't know if you are arguing that when I change my oil myself, if I dump it on the ground, it is my freedom, right? Or should I not since it sinks into the aquifer and pollutes the water for people further down the stream? That is more the point I am making. Don't do things that will negatively affect others, otherwise, do what you want. I say, drink, smoke, and be merry. I don't even agree with anti-smoking legislation and I am a non-smoker.

I don't remember saying the government should make laws to make us do certain things ... I was more or less saying that a choice should be obvious to a person of intelligence that ... if you use products that are more efficient, you get the same results with less money spent (on gas/electricity). It isn't like an appliance with a good energy star rating costs any more these days. That not polluting is a good thing to someone with enough of an IQ to realize they breath that air too.

I am NOT a liberal ... other than thinking that everyone has the right to live their life as they choose. Again, what people do in their home is really their business ... I may not agree or practice their lifestyle, but, I can't tell them what is right or wrong based on my morals. Freedom, equality ... I am more of a constitutionalist.

You still think my point is to force you, and that I am speaking of saving the world. Again, you missed the point, and, if you are frustrated, please take a deep breath and discuss things calmly. I will not take your personal attack to heart.

I don't know what I said that hit a nerve in you ... honestly. Do you drive a Hummer? You do have a right to, even if I feel it is a completely impractical vehicle ... and that is because I HAVE driven one around town. I put gas in one and know it gets 9 mpg at its best in the city. Working at a dealership in the past gave me a lot of experience with different cars first hand. The Cadillac XLR is fast, and decent ... I think its sister car the Corvette is actually better.

I would love to understand what made you so ... passionate, because I don't really think you are angry. I didn't take offense, I took what you said in jest as I hope you do the same with what I said.

I just hope you can get my point better, and see ... I am not against you like you think. Global warming is irrelevant. I don't think Gore should have won the Nobel Peace prize for the film and supposed work ... for the reasons you call him a hypocrite and I agree. It would have been better served to someone who prevents war ... the opposite of peace. Emmy and Oscar ... I don't know ... I don't follow that stuff nor tv and movies in general, award shows are boring and are just a bunch of pat-themselves-on-the-back b.s. for people to drool over celebrities ... forgetting they are just people too.

I guess, I just don't see the point of another thread, with nearly identical title and content to many others when you can add to ... if you all feel this passionately against the man, write him, petition him. Just like those who despise Bush, write him, petition him. Same with Pelosi. To me, the whole lot of them are a crock.

If I wasn't weary of Ron Paul I would support him. I support Dennis Kucinich ... he wants to abolish a lot of the same things Paul does. If Paul is what he says he is, and what his supporters claim ... then either one would be great for our nation ... or actually, both of them together would be great. It would be better than a Paul/Guiliani or anyone else ...

I respect your views, so I hope you understand that. I enjoy discussion and debate, as I hope other ATS members do. No need to raise blood pressure over opinions. Communication is diplomacy ... something we need more of in this world

Generally, the only people with enough time on their hands for "idealism" are the young (students) and/or the idle rich. Everyone else is busy trying to survive. Sorry if that "generalization" missed you, but I doubt you'd admit to being in either of those groups anyway. So, how do I know? I was once a student, too. I once believed the fallacy that if the world would just come to agree on my well dreamed out solutions, it would be a much better place. Life and reality have taught me (the hard way) that those dreams are just that - dreams - and there is never going to be enough concensus to greatly or rapidly change anything. Check out ATS as an example. There are people from all over the world here, and it is as fractious as anywhere else. Yes, yes, it always take someone to start making the dream a reality. Ever wonder how many people have said that before you?

Another thing on "idealism". Ever try and guess how many idealists there are in Africa, Asia, South America or any other place with so-called third world countries (most of the world)? You have to know the answer to that question would be that there are damned few. Why? Again, simply because trying to survive doesn't leave time for idealism.

Which kind of proves my original point ...

After you graduate and get a job, you'll see what I mean. Until then, you can expand your horizons to include the people I mentioned earlier to get a clearer picture of reality in the world today.

I was taught very young that if it is not dreamed, it does not happen. Idealism is very good, as long (of course) it is tempered with reality. My greatest political formative moment was an outstanding 'soccer' goal, the commentator screamed 'Only Matthew Le Tissier scores goals like that because only Matthew Le Tissier dreams of goals like that!!!' Inspirational.

Your point is clear. Our point, because I agree with Nyk, is that if you are going to preach to the masses about a topic so important to lifestyle, or changes to that lifestyle, you'd better be practising what you preach, lest you be ignored.

And what is being done in the name of 'The War On Terror?' I think a little more extermination. And I mean that one on both sides. The planetary movement haven't killed anyone. At all. Yet.

Right, we can agree that no global preserving measures that have taken place have had any effect yet. Where does the sudden increase in famine in Africa come from? Why has India's rainfall fallen so far that they are destroying their water table risking hundreds of millions of lives? Where is your oil sponsored genocide coming from in our trying to burn less, waste less and recycle more world?
