Students for Sale

Katherine Faulkner discovers just what students will do for cash
A Varsity investigation into Cambridge student jobs has uncovered undergraduates working as prostitutes and strippers during term time, as well as a plethora of students selling essays and dates for cash.
One Cambridge student has admitted to spending her first undergraduate year working as a call girl, charging £50 per hour. Unbeknown to her friends, the finalist slept with between 40 and 50 men for money over two months

I live in UK since '97 and honestly i can not avoid to note that at this point this society is at its lowest point concerning moral value and standards.
And according to this news, the future doesn't look any better.
Lies, deception, bribery, moral corruption are the standard here;starting from the 'elites' spreading down at all level like a disease.
The American-British Alliance keep demonising the Islam world, branding them as 'evil',while exercise turture to obtain info, claiminge they do it for us, to protect us.Well..id have a laugh at this if it was not involving mass murder and genocide.
Good bless the people of good will and give them strenght to fight the real evil.

Hmmm who would that be and who is the real evil? Some student who needs the money to eat, or a system that causes people to turn to prostitution to have to make that money?

Also as a christian aren't you supposed to NOT judge?

It's real easy to pick on the results of a corrupt system, and ignore the real cause of such activity. I find it funny when people find prostitution so morally repensive and yet support a right wing government that spends billions a day on killing people. If those billions were put into society here at home, maybe those students wouldn't need to sell themselves to make ends meet.

It's also your opinion that prostitution is so immoral, what gives you the right to force your morals on others? Don't you sell your body everyday when you go to work? Your boss is using your body. Or is it just sex that is the problem? The christian hang up.

If prostitution, much like dugs, were legal then most of the problems caused by it being illegal would go away.

However disturbing the idea of commercial sex may be to some of us, it's naïve to believe that prostitution can ever be eliminated. The demand will be met with supply one way or another, no matter what is legislated. Turning our backs on the women (and men) who do this work may be far more immoral - even criminal - than prostitution itself. Only when we recognize and validate the work of professional prostitutes can we expect them to practice their trade safely and responsibly. Alexa Albert, M.D., from 'Brothel' (2001)

Why is it illegal to charge for what can be freely dispensed? Sex work is no more moral or immoral than the chocolate or distilling industries. Catherine La Croix

I'm not surprised in the slightest that some students are resorting to this kind of work to supplement what little loan/grant income there is available.

I'm in my final year as a mature student and have a whopping annual income of £5,800 to cover absolutely everything...rent and all living expenses, books and other essential course materials and it's barely enough to scrape by on

Added to the fact is that there are far more students than jobs available that offer anything over national-minimum-wage.

It's been shown that even working just 10-15hrs a week on top of a punishing study schedule affects grades and exam performance.

What's wrong with increasing the student loan by £2k a year to allow a decent level of living, it all has to be paid back after graduation anyway, so it's not the case of the state footing the bill

Thx a lot for your reply. The main reason i posted the above news is because i want it to be noted instead to be hidden under the carpet.
What trouble me with that news is that the girls involved are in significant number. The second thing that trouble me is the reasons why they do so.They don't prostitute cause they are victims of a sick society and they must feed a drug addictions,or else, but because they want to graduate at Cambridge. They want to be our next main stream anchor,a politician. They sell themselves for their ambitions.I don't judge the action of prostitution in itself,i judge the reasons why they do so.
I think that is immoral because if they don't respect themselves, how they can ever respect others?Or teach the new generations moral and principles.
If the cost to have a place in the circle that count is sell yourself,well....i woudnt want to be in that circle at all.

It's that enterprising spirit that makes our countries great (UK and US), if people aren't willing to go above and beyond to get what needs to be done done!

Then who will?

If the Gov's were to legalise prostitution I'm sure a lot more students would do it, I've known a few girls who've worked to make a living and some who've done it on the side! at the end of the day it's just a job. And offen in cases like the one you mentioned (University student) I'm sure that girl would never dream of letting her daughter have to do the things she has (maybe) had to do to get by of to reach her "God given potential"

The best teachers are those who have lived not those who have read! Morals and Principals are all well and good, but when was the last time you hadn't eaten for three days and still had to go the classes or feed your child.

It's personal choice, plain and simple! And please be honest, you've never taken a girl on a date just to get in her panties, or gone on a date or series of dates offering the chance of a little action!!

SEX we all pay for it one way or another.

To the glue factory with your high horse

Iv'e done more than my fair share of having 'lived' and hauled myself from the gutter, now I'd just like the luxury of having the time to dedicate to read and make the absolute most of this education-potential, otherwise, whats the point of being at uni in the first place?

Too many times to count...I've resorted to eating flatmates' binned takeaway leftovers in the past just to keep going
