Hi all,

Here's 2 second exposure of an unusual object I shot with my Nikon Coolpix 5000 and 3 x tele converter. Taken at Palm Beach, Sydney, 28 May, 2000 5.47am.....chris

Very cool CJB. What did appear like to the eye? An orb, rod, squiggle? Nice capture! How fast did it move, how long did you observe? Thanks

Hi jpm,

Thanks for the comment. This image was shot RAW and pushed a stop further after viewing to show the object better. To the naked eye I saw blinking lights of a metallic, solid object moving reasonably slowly at times. The activity happens above the inland water called Pittwater and I think I see it 'come in'. A strong light will appear, (...possibly from the water itself ? ) and then remain motionless for maybe a minute or so. It will then dim down and start to move, blinking along the way so I can keep track. I pretty much watch most of the sighting through the camera lens, shooting different shutter speeds. Long exposures are better than the naked eye to see what's there. I have observed the activity on several occasions and it has pretty much kept to a pattern. Because of this I set up and wait....

Thanks for that CJB. I have a number of friends online down under that have witnessed some extraordinary things. You seem to be a bit of a hotspot. Keep looking up

Not trying to rain on your parade, but don't you think a two second exposure is a bit too long to capture a ufo? Did you use a tripod on this shot? If handheld a two second exposure would be a hopeless blur anyway. I photographed the moon with my EF 70-300 IS USM lens the other day and got a nize clear shot at around 1/100 of a second. Granted, the moon is alot brighter than anything else in the sky, just saying it's hard to tell what you've captured here.

No offence, looks like a photoshop effect to me

I'm going to second that thought. Seems like the idea is to obtain a sharp image in a photo that might show what a craft actually looks like. It's great that you are out there trying.

I think your photo was sold wrong. Don't look in space, look down at the sea and an orange Mexican staring frog having a pee.

Give the guy a break...hehe I'm sure he is a photo expert and knows just what to do when he sees an object like that. He didn't say it was a spaceship just a UFO and I find it interesting. If it was just a photoshop then who cares, but if it was a raw picture then it is interesting as to what it might have been.

I see two clown faces in an orange cloud

Actually looking at it some more I see more faces in the clouds, but not as clear as the clown faces.
That's just what I see, keep trying with your camera.

faces! faces! They're everywhere!!

But really 2 second is too long, even if you have a tri-pod.

If your goal is to make nice clean shots of UFO's then this is not the way young padowan...

But it really looks wierd especialy with the orange glow on it! Nice stuff man!

Agreed, but you can't tell anything from a two second exposure. You can even tell from the EXIF that the camera was set on timer priority, ie. he manually set the exposure to two seconds. I can shoot off a dozen two second exposures right now and have all sorts of funny lights and blurry things to show you. Doesn't really prove anything. I'm not trying to attack the OP, just saying that with this picture there is just no point trying to analyze anything...
