Again, direct proof of the level of conspiracy that this US gov operates on. Perhaps it's time to move, being the food is soon to be questionable?????

news.yahoo.com...

"The Environmental Protection Agency gave the go-ahead for one-year use of a new agricultural pesticide Friday, saying its own scientific review overrides health concerns expressed by more than 50 chemists and other scientists. "

and

"The agency concluded that there are adequate safety margins and the registration of iodomethane does not pose unreasonable risks," the agency said. Last week, however, a group of 54 scientists, including six Nobel Prize winners, sent a letter to EPA urging that the pesticide not be registered for use because of the potential danger to pregnant women and children, the elderly and farmworkers.

Hi Dominicus,

I agree with you wholeheartedly! The EPA is placing the citizens and residents of the U.S. in danger. Won't this pesticide also be absorbed into the food and soil.

Jim Guilford of EPA said it will be subjected to a review after one year. Well isn't that terrific! If it is absorbed into the soil the next crops will still be placing people at risk.

I copied this excerpt from the article:

"The approval brought immediate reaction from critics. It "will put farmworkers, farmers and rural families at risk," Erik Nicholson of the United Farmworkers of America said in a statement with the Pesticide Action Network of North America. He said the EPA instead should "focus on alternatives that don't view us as disposable human beings who can risk cancer and miscarriages in the name of supposed economic gain."

I guess the one-year use of this toxin is to see how many people get seriously ill, possibly blind, lung damage, and cancer, etc. So, once again the human beings in the U.S. are being used as guinea pigs!

Thank you for bringing this important EPA atrocity to members of ATS.

I think this offically shows that the EPA is bought out, all it will take is to see if there are financial benefits for EPA associates from the makers of that toxic pesticide.

I got this excerpt from Wikipedia:

Biological effects:

Iodomethane has LD50 for oral administration to rats 76 mg/kg and in the liver it undergoes rapid conversion to S-methylglutathione.[4]

Breathing iodomethane fumes can cause lung, liver, kidney and central nervous system damage. It causes nausea, dizziness, coughing and vomiting. Prolonged contact with skin causes burns. Massive inhalation causes pulmonary edema.

I agree with you! I believe the EPA higher-ups may have stock in the company that will manufacture the product. Another government agency out for their own best interests!!!

Another sign that our entire system of large-scale farming needs to be overhauled.

The very fact that new pesticides are being put into use shows that unwanted bugs are becoming resistant to what is already in use. But the pesticides also kill wanted bugs. Aerobic bacteria, worms, and other critters that are vital to topsoil health.

High density farming techniques don't have many problems with weeds as there's simply no room for them to grow. What few weeds do make it are easy enough to kill.

Companion planting also can be used to naturally repel pests and promote good soil health.

Our agricultural system is sick, and these idiots are making it worse.
