I guess the way it works is asteroids see themselves and turn around..
Not really..article says the mirrors will focus a bean of sunlight unto the asteroid therby altering its path

And all they have to do then is reposition the mirrors to direct the sunbeam down to earth,and we will have the death ray,as seen in James Bond!
