Korea United?

en.rian.ru

MOSCOW. (RIA Novosti political commentator Dmitry Kosyrev) - There is a superstition against making forthright predictions lest they never become true. Say, "the two Koreas will certainly reunite someday," and you will be bombarded with no end of arguments on their incompatibility; the North and South Korean modes of life are poles apart, to say nothing of their economies.

This would be great not only for N. and S. Korea, but for America since they (N. Koreans) are just a pain in the neck. One Korea would put the country into an economic superpower in the region and the world.

What do you think is going through Kim Jong Ill's mind? Is he playing around or is he actually being serious about shutting down his nuclear reactors?

He could simply be wanting what is best for his people.

With the trade locks on North Korea, we're not really punishing the government, we're punishing the poor people who have to live in that country.

If North Korea and South Korea unite, their work force will grow, the trade locks will be gone, and with the trust we have in South Korea, they can have nuclear reactors on South Korean territory, feeding the needed electricity to the areas that don't have it.

Reunification in the medium term would actually be very bad for the Korean economy... the disparity between North Korea and South Korea is extremely large, and the infrastructure in North Korea is also a lot poorer than in the South.

In short, a lot of South Korean money is going to have to flow into North Korea for a sustained period of time before they even have a chance of dominating the region. A mass migration of people from north to the south would further complicate things, since the population disparity would be difficult to solve. Also... how do you undo fifty years of brainwashing and repression? It's not a quick or easy thing to do.

It's a bit like West/East Germany, I suppose... the eastern areas of Germany are still poorer than the western areas as we approach twenty years after reunification. North Korea is arguably in a worse state than East Germany was when it was reunified, too.

The strongest motives of South Koreans are not quite so obvious.

WOMEN!

Its not a pretty thing and few will talk about it but Infantcide is rampant in South Korea. Male children are highly valued while female children are considered a burden. Many couples will kill all of their children until they have a male child!

But in the North they do not practice this. Because of the hard working conditions, and political repression men are outnumbered.

If and when NK and SK reunite there will be a flood or marriages. Mostly being NK women marrying SK men. And don't think KJI doesn't know this. I believe he may have created the situation in the north to give him an ace that no one in the world can trump.

You see, Koreans, for the most part, are racists. Not that they hate other races, they prefer their own. Nothing will do other than a spouse of their own race. And North Korea is the most heterogeneous nation on Earth. There may be exactly ZERO non-Koreans living there. After the Japanese occupation ended they killed all Japanese who remained and all of the mixed breed children. They offer pure stock to SK which is more valuable than all the oil in the world. And the people there have good genetics. The weak died and the strong survived over the decades.

North and South Korea Sign Reconciliation Pact

SEOUL, South Korea — North Korea pledged to detail its nuclear programs and disable all activities at its main reactor complex by year's end, then signed a wide-ranging reconciliation pact with South Korea Thursday promising to work for peace on the divided peninsula.

North and South Korea pledged to seek a permanent peace agreement replacing the 54-year-old cease-fire that ended the Korean War, a day after the North made its firmest commitment yet to nuclear disarmament.

But, of course, they can't reunite until America agrees. The war never ended. SK is still occupied. They CAN'T have peace by their own choice without first throwing out the US occupation force.
