The three years before I went in service I was a barber in an old type barber shop. The old men used to hang out in there sometimes all day and "swap
lies". They were very entertaining but if one listened it could be an educational experience. I learned early in life to put myself where the old
folks are and listen. Most of them are aching to leave behind as much as they can of what life has taught them. A willing ear will keep them going for
hours. OP already said old folks though so:
(1) Buckskinning Rendezvous
(2) Indian PowWow
(3) The Homeless
(4) Farmers CoOp or Farmers Market (truck farmers)
Generally speaking, the more "laid back" an environment you can find, the more you'll pick up on old ways.
