Thank heavens- a thread that isn't about shapeshifting reptiles!!!!

Certainly by no means all UFO accounts are hoaxes. That much is clear, and it is rather unfair to tar everyone with the same brush- rather like saying all football (or as you chaps call it "soccer") fans are thugs.

I think the genuine cases are largely misidentifications of astronomical or various military or natural phenomena. What doesn't help things is the wretched complusion to assume that UFO=ET!

Unfortuantley, I have noticed that there is no shortage of people with fanciful ideas and material they class as 'evidence' posting frquently here. There is also no shortage in people who take on these views without really questioning the sources of such wild claims.

No of course not. There is no such thing as alternate intelligence in this galaxy of billions of stars and planets. We are the real and only deal. Somehow a cosmic lotterly declared us the only sentient being in the universe. Ya, we rock. Astronauts that were 'out there' declaring visitation must have all seen lens flare, swamp gas, or weather balloon. Sure, no ET's exist. Thanks for clarifying that for me. I suppose the declaration of reality of another species would send humanity into a tailspin. Mathematically the odds of us being the only living species in the universe is close to nill. But so many have such a huge negative thought basis on this. It makes me wonder why? Shuddered and safe in their tidy houses listening to Rush and feeling so fine. No, millions of people seeing anomalous things are all mad, and you are all perfectly safe. LOL, think again.

The]is seems the usual hostile response to someone with a different viewpoint. My dear jpm1602, I did not say that there were no ETs, I personally belive the Universe is bursting with lifeforms ranging from the very simple, to very advanced. But I recognise that as my own belief, since the evidence to support ET life visiting the Earth (a different thing entirely) is decidedly slender.

As for determining the odds on life in the Universe, there is no sensible way to really calculate it- until we know the complete story of planet formation and how life came to be on the Earth, there is no way of putting sensible figures into a statistical entity like the Drake equation. Is life a natural consequence of solar system formation, I strongly believe so, but again that just that.

Let me clarify: Proof of Alien life or even visitation would not send me into a tailspin. I eagerly await that happy time, should it happen. ET can visit my observatory at anytime- he/she/it is most welcome!

It's rather a pity you didn't ask for my views rather than just rush in with the attack.

Whether one likes it or not, it is true that there are a large number of people out there who will quickly assign any Unidentified Object as alien. Morestill the people who churn out the same conspiracy theories again and again. I feel this does do a great diservice to those people who take the time to investigate a UFO report seriously, as I do when a member of the public reports them to me. Finding a rational, real explanation 9 times out of 10 is not a crime.

Regards,

-Paul.
