US trains Gulf air forces for war with Iran

www.telegraph.co.uk

An air warfare conference in Washington last week was told how American air chiefs have helped to co-ordinate intelligence-sharing with Gulf Arab nations and organise combined exercises designed to make it easier to fight together.

Gen Michael Mosley, the US Air Force chief of staff, used the conference to seek closer links with allies whose support America might need if President George W Bush chooses to bomb Iran.

At first, I could not believe that Bush would be stupid enough to actually strike Iran despite all the saber-rattling. This article has really opened my eyes that this becoming a real possiblity.

I guess that these kind of excercises happen all of the time with friendly forces and we only really hear about them when there is a heightened tension and they have more symbolism. During the cold war NATO forces and Russian forces would parade in front of each other on 'nearly but not quite exercises' as the closest they would get to a real confrontation. It may be a scare tactic? Perhaps it is that heightened tension that is the news not the excercise.

Anyway, to be slightly more flippant, I would have thought that the USAF has had more than enough practice flying all over the ME. This must be for the benefit of their Arab friends.

Another related article:

“There is a desperate effort by Cheney et al. to bring military action to Iran as soon as possible. Meanwhile, the politicians are saying, ‘You can’t do it, because every Republican is going to be defeated, and we’re only one fact from going over the cliff in Iraq.’ But Cheney doesn’t give a rat’s ass about the Republican worries, and neither does the President.”

Trust me, USA will have their way and there is not a thing anyone can do about it. If you live in Iran, you may want to get out now.
