good point. i work in a private communtiy and when i write traffic violations im not allowed to ask for insurance because it is a private road and local law enforcement only has juristiction there when we premit them to have it, more times than not we deny them acess unless it is an emergency.

I love speeding.. mainly because I am a good driver.. If your not a good driver you can't tell that your driving eraddically and you can't tell that you dont have full control of your vehicle..

I and my companion who also enjoys speeding up there , ^ , can feel our car, feel the wheels feel the accelleration feel our brakes, feel our trasnmission, feel the wind resistance, feel the wind resistance created by cars around us, and have a keen eye to watch out for other drivers. However this accounts for 5% of the population the rest 95% drive fast b/c they think they are cool

i'll throw my 2 cents in..

we have this technology at my job where there is a wire located in the ground and the machines that drive through the warehouse lock in on these and are only allowed to go so fast for certain conditions (such as turning a corner) you have no choice you can apply more throttle but it does not go faster until you complete the turn. i think the same could be installed into local roads and the posted speed limit would be the max you could travel.
or another thing i thought of is gps, it could pinpoint what road your on and "lookup" what the posted speed limit is and restrict your car from traveling faster. And with certain systems beginning to be used in modern cars like throttle by wire, it wouldnt be to hard to gain control of the car via stepper motors or the like.
That is... of course if they really wanted to stop speeding, but waaay to many local governments depend on speeding violation revenue.

Oh hell no. Any technology that limits the capabilities of the car is bad in my opinion. Instead of limiting the car, better educate the people. Instead of installing theses things, which could probably be disabled by those who wanted to anyway, better spend the money on advanced driving courses and defensive driving courses.

oh for sure. stuff like this would never fly mostly because there is too much money in traffic tickets. but almost all of the technology to do the GPS idea already exists so they could if they wanted. and if they did it would start out slow like, installing the system but its only used by law enforcement to stop high speed chases and move from there. but car nerds like myself would find ways around it..

I think you make a good point, perhaps just using the GPRS technology to stop a car in a high speed chase or similar circumstances.
I heard somewhere a while back that there is the technology to stop a car's engine? Can't remember where I heard it but if anyone could shed some light,
it would be helpful, thanks.

I hear what you're saying and yes I believe thats the case here in the U.K aswell, but like what was mentioned earlier, using technology to limit the speed on public roads and let everyone run wild on private land.

I wouldn't support technologies that limit vehicle speeds under any circumstances. I would however support technology that "auto-pilots" cars on public roads like the one featured in I, Robot (the one with Will Smith). On public roads, let the computer handle it. Private roads, take over the driving yourself.

That makes sense to me.

That would be a good idea, but then you have to take into account that computers might be to flawed to run on a scale of this.
I mean some HGV's actually are limited to 80 or 90 mph, and my first car could go no faster than 100, so I think just building the cars with a maximum speed of around that is very easy and probably cheaper than using all this technology to make cars go 250mph+.

Nah, computers can work. Don't manage traffic with a single supercomputer. Use distributed computing, a technology which is already here.

My argument against limiting speed in this case would be because the number of cars on the road isn't decreasing. Number keep on going higher. If vehicles are suddenly limited in their maximum speed, the accumulated effect would eventually cause debilitating traffic jams. More so if it wasn't controlled by computers that would manage the traffic flow.

OR... do away altogether with private transportation except for taxi cabs. I mean if the goal really is to reduce traffic fatalities. Besides, the train is never late

If a society makes laws then nobody follows them this gives authority the right to pick and choose who to punish. It moves the state from justice to control by authority. If someone upsets the wrong person, or fits a profile the state can always find something to 'get them' with.

This is why the constitution specifically says the executive branch is responsible for enforcing all laws. The lack of enforcement leads to tyranny, either laws should be 100% enforced or they should be null and void.

This is also addressed in employee discipline issues, you can not fire union employees if the thing they did wrong is also being done wrong by many others who are not punished. This issue is known to people that negotiate work contracts.
