Iranians Say US Was Rude To their President

Well it sure looks like the visit from President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad from Iran is turning into a political nightmare.

I would like to know what people think about this should we have treated him better and with more respect?

Or should we have not let him come at all.

well... rice did say that him visiting ground zero would have been bad, regardless of the fact that the streets of tehran burnt with thousands of candles after the 9/11 attacks in support of the victims...

why doesn't anyone remember this?

Because it wasn't repeated ad nauseum in the media. It wouldn't serve the current "interest", after all Iran is part of the "axis of evil"

Iran needs to get over it.

Americans are equally rude to everyone all the time no matter who you are.

The opportunity for the "President" to go to Ground Zero, for him to have to go out at halftime at the next Philadelphi Eagles' home game... Hell, they booed Santa Claus...

Then he'd know what a tough reception is.

Since he is a visiting head of state with the intent of addressing the UN, I don't believe that the US could have excluded him from the country. Under the UN charter, a head of state or diplomat representing one of the member countries of the UN is allowed to address that body.

As far as Iran's perception that the American people were rude to their president, how quickly they forget the Iranian hostage crisis of the late 70's.
When Iranian fundamentalist militant extremists, took US embassy officials hostage, one might consider that as being "rude" -- to the extreme.

Of course, Iranian culture is really a rather polite one. There are certain elements in their culture that demand that "guests" be treated with dignity and decorum -- even if that "guest" was considered someone who was not exactly welcome. So the Iranians might have very well considered the American reception of their leader as being extremely impolite and rude regardless of any existing animosity that might exist between the two nations.

i hope you remember exactly what led up to that whole embassy crisis... like when we so rudely toppled a democratically elected government to reinstate a brutal dictator.

and again, it was a bit rude to outright lie and passively link iran to 9/11

The prime minister of Iran was APPOINTED by the Shah ... he WAS NOT elected. Iran was an absolute monarchy until the 1979 revolution.

um.. the guy we toppled was elected. the shah was overthrown through exclusion and we didn't like the new government. the US toppled a democratic government in iran (wouldn't be the first or last time)

How was he democratically elected if he was an appointed official? Yes, he may have been elected to Parliament and THEN was appointed prime minister.

It was HE (the so called democratically elected leader) who overthrew the Shah and tried to instill a dictatorship and then the CIA disposed of him.

there was no evidence that he was going to install a dictatorship. that's US spin on the issue. he was going to be leftist, that was the problem. the USA was afraid he'd end up going commie (an illogical fear, considering the guy's strong anti-communism stance) so they put the despot back into power.

and he had EVERY RIGHT to overthrow the shah. the shah was in no way a legitimate government.

Oh they are complaining about the tough reception he recieved, oh boo hoo. Tuff he now knows that americans wont just sit there and listen to his rectrict about how bad the US or any other country is. Hats off to those who gave this guy a tough time while he was visiting the US. More courage to the opening speaker to say what he had said before the President of Iran even spoke.

Anyways he will get over it, hard chucks if he doesnt. Does it really bother any americans what he thinks anyways??

I do not understand. . .did they want the US to welcome him with a bouquet of flowers, and pedals at his feet?

well, they could at least be cordial

i mean, what exactly has he done to the USA?
nothing that we haven't done to his country
he says death to america and we label iran as part of an axis of evil

When is our president going to visit Iran to go speak at the Iran University?
