Wow, someone that "gets it". Bravo!!!!!!!!!!

A more effective way would be to seed doctored munitions like they did in Vietnam. Munitions would be left which would hvae been booby trapped so that when they were used they would kill or maim the user. such as mortar shells which explode when dropped down the tube or bullets that explode when fired from a gun. This was a very effective operation in Vietnam.

The war is over. The Iraqi STATE is defeated. This is an occupation.

The officer made a rationalization, just like the Nazis and communists did on many occasions, and it resulted in muder.

No matter the intent the people simply picking up the items are not belligerants. Posssesion is not proof of intent.

Like I said, many people who are not insurgents or terrorists would remove the items because weapons lying around are not safe. Heaven forbid children should find them....

Nonsense! In urban area combat, MOST of the people found in the area where combat takes place are most likely to be civilians. I know, insurgents in Iraq do not wear uniforms, and it is hard to identify them. But it needs to be done. Killing anyone in sight means committing war crime, and those responsible should be put on trial, regardless who they are. And those led by the motto 'kill 'em all, let God sort them out' are not worthy being called soldiers. They are SCUM.

And as for war, war goes waaaaay beyond the killing of enemy. War is mostly a matter of politics. But I'm not going to teach you about that. First, you should try to find the answer to the question - What is the ultimate goal of US politics and strategy in Iraq? Certainly not to 'to kill those who oppose you (US)'.

FYI the soldier has been acquitted of murder. He was however charged with planting evidence.
