Damn right. As well as he should have.

the guy was being a dickhead the entire time

Why? Because he was asking questions you find "offensive"? Well, Boo-freakin-hoo. I'm sick of everyone saying this guy was being a "dickhead". Yeah, he was. So the freak what? Do you think we won the revolutionary war by being nice? Or were our founding fathers "dickheads" in the eyes of the king?

Jeez is all I can say. From the people's posts on here, we ARE headed for a police state and most will just bend over and take it. Have fun being the nice little fascists in the fascist state because I'm going out fighting. "GIVE ME LIBERTY OR GIVE ME DEATH"

and in my opinion he got what was coming to him. he even knew it was coming and had plenty of warnings.

You're intitled to your opinion. But, when they come for you, I will defend your rights even when you laughed about this kids rights being taken away.

Giorgio, and everyone else.

Very sorry about my stupid comments. Really completely childish.

(Malta, from what I've read, seems like a beautiful place).

Sincerely,

I think it was actually my fault and my appologies for that. If we had electricity here I could see better where I am pointing my mouse
.

Thank you for your kind words. I always enjoy reading the majority of subjects on ATS to the point of visiting the forum everyday.

Keep it up guys.

Cheers.

Never in my life have i ever felt so ashamed to be an American. That actually made me cry. How could anyone stand for this? Something needs to be done about this. F#@K JOHN KERRY,no good man would stand by and let that happen. Especially when all he had to do, is say "Let him finish". They just as easily could have dragged him out, look how many "officers"(SS Troops) there were. This enrages me to no end. I don't know what I am going to do, but I will not stand for this.

Revolution time who's with me?

Alright... check THIS out.

Their reactions are 100% reasonable, and completely justified. Nearly the same as to how he reacted when they put their hands on him.

Once again, if the link does not work, click here.

This must stop NOW. We need to take the reigns and show people WTF is up. Someone should submit this to Michael Moore.

No need to be sorry my friend. Quite understandable. As for Malta being beautiful well it is in it's own little ways but many Countries are just as beautiful and much more. I wish we had the endless nice places you have in the States too, but one has to make the best with what one has I suppose.

May the Force be with you

No you can't. You can be detained until a police officer get there to arrest you, but you cannot be arrested by a private sector enforcement agency.

If this were the case, I'd just establish a corporation called Tyranny Security and go arrest The Executive Branch for jaywalking, lock them away in the deepest cave I could find and throw away the key.

Let's say you decide to go on a shoplifting spree, and the store security spots it. Do you think their authority stops at telling you to stop, nicely?

Here's a link to a Washington Post story, which mentions situations where private police have the authority to arrest individuals, so to say flat out that they can't isn't necessarily accurate.

That is truly deplorable behaviour by camp security. I can understand why he was asked to leave even though his questions were relevant. He was ranting and disruptive, but to assault him with a taser was disgusting.

There were 3 rentacops on the scene, they could of easily escorted him outside until he had calmed down but instead chose to electrocute him.

They should all stand on assault charges.

Man, you guys should get a lesson from France on how to deal with things like this.

I can agree with this statement. This man is very bright and passionate. AND he is wrong....let me speak.

Ok, at the risk of getting clobbered by the good passionate people of this thread I am going to disagree with the OP.

1. This guy stood up at a forum and broke the rules. Please let me outline my points.

a. He gave a long statement before his question.

b. He was reminded by the Moderators to get to a question.

c. He fired back in a very rude way totally disregarding the MOD instructions.

d. He kept on talking when is mic was cut.

e. He resisted the officers that were leading him out of the forum.

f. He continued to resist in a physical way toward the officers.

While I think that the taser thing needs to be addressed in some cases at this point I believe it was neccesary to restore order in this forum. He was out of control and he was arrested for that reason.

Just like if I or anybody else were to disregard warnings in this (ATS) forum, I would expect action and disappline by the MODS to keep a clean smooth running forum that will be usefull for everybody and not just one agenda. And he was ejected like what should have happened. Yes, he is a bright peroson. But he should have obeyed the rules.

This was a company that had been given special rights by the state.
Cited Article

It is one of dozens of private security companies given police powers by the state of North Carolina

I guess it's all according to interpretation. "Persons acting under the law" could be considered you, me or any individual, hense the term "citizen's arrest". Even an act by a vigilante could be condoned under such loose terms.
Wikipedia

An arrest is the action of the police, or person acting under the law, to take a person into custody, usually so that they may be forthcoming to answer before a tribunal for the commission of a crime.

It's all according to how you read the laws of the state. But, I highly doubt these officers did much more than detain the student until the proper authorities arrived. I know they didn't excort the individual to the country jail and book him.

Shame is right. We should all be ashamed. You are 100% correct. We sit in our comfortable living rooms, in debt up to our eyeballs, watching our big screens with an imported beer in one hand and the remote in the other.

And that's just where this government wants us. Comfortable. They make sure the masses can get easy loans to buy their houses and easy credit to fill them up with stuff to make them comfortable so when a man gets tasered by the authorities, we won't take any action because we've got all this STUFF to pay for and we can't AFFORD to make a stink. We'll just sit in our comfortable houses and type on our computers so we can feel like we're doing something about it.

I doubt it. The university is paid for by the students. The students own that "private property".

I'm sorry man, but you're wrong. Even though those kids all pay tuition, etc. it's still a private institution, owned by a private group of people (corporation).

The uinversity isn't paid for by the students, their educations are. They're paying for "educations", not buying into ownership of the university.

(Maybe some of them might be buying stocks in the company, but they'd have to own a large percentage in order to have any authority in the business of the company.)

My point was, it has nothing to do with the US gov. I was commenting on that point because many people were suggesting that this was a sign of Fascism in America.

Maybe it was Fascism in a privately owned institution, by private security guards. It has nothing to do with the gov. In America you have the right to free ownership, and you can do whatever you want on your private property, within the law.

If it is found you went outside the law, than you can be sued.

This had nothing to do with our gov. Those other students could have exercised their right to "riot", but they thought the student speaker was a nut.

Hell if I would have been there I would have take my friends with me and run on the police, hell, nobody will violate the first amendment of someone who's just asking a question to a piece of trash like Kerry. Americans are so submissive, it's horrible. I guess america will go into dictatorship and they will submit.

How did you become like that? TV? Food? WHAT? Just watching at the video my blood is boiling!!!!!!!!!! I hope you know everytime a police do something like that they are killing the constitution and basically killing one of your forefathers? The worst polices out there are females... they are more control freaks than anyone on average because they want to show how they can ``take care of themselves`` and want to be some kind of sick feminists...

I know they say that global government is taking over and all that, but people, from an outsider looking in, all these events coming to light, its screaming at you right now.

When I was growing up I watched TV from the USA, the A-Team, street hawk and Airwolf. I always looked at the land to my left (I was born and raised in Ireland) as the true land of freedom and every man or woman could achieve anything out there, I lived on the east coast of Ireland and I would walk out and just look out at the sea, I knew the next stop, beyond all that sea was America.

I feel so sorry for some of you tonight, because I know some of you are aware enough to HATE what is going on and I would LOVE to help you, as I would have jumped in and helped this lad, in that school.

Jesus people, they killed your president on your streets and then sold you a lie.

I hope you take the USA back.

Then you must know something about France's history that I don't. Please inform me of how you think they would have handled the bully.

Rather than tell me I am ill-informed why don't you inform me. Let's work together and express ourselves to each other in a way that can benifit this entire thread. Please help me understand the original post (your ideas and thoughts) that I responded to. Thank you for your consideration and time.

Ok, maybe you missed my question. I will U2U the request to you...

Does anyone see what I'm saying here. This doesn't sound anti-american to anyone else?

Why doesn't everyone go and pounce all over comments like this?

This stuff (and worse) happens in all countries.

My points are:

This happened on private property, in a private institution with privatley hired security guards.

How does that reflect on the American gov?

Because the students didn't have an uprising?

(The students didn't have an uprising because that student speaker wasn't making any sense, he looked and sounded manic and angry, he scared his fellow classmates).

We Americans fight and die like hell for our freedoms, we were/are the model for all free societies.

Stop with the insults. "Our food and TV..." I suppose your food and TV sitcoms are better, and promote greater intelligence?

Where are you from?

So are you saying the 5 (not 3, I watched it again) rentacops were justified in tasering this guy?

Although he was asking perfectly legitimate questions, albeit in a very annoying way, there were alot of better ways to handle that situation.

Although Vit's reply was slightly inflammatory I am inclined to agree with his sentiment.
I have seen a large number of threads this year showing videos of cops/rentacops totally overreacting and assaulting and/or detaining members of the public for exercising the right to free speech. They all come from the US.
