The movie that I have loved that you might not have heard of is The World's Fastest Indian.
This film, shot in part in New Zealand, is a "true story".

It's the story of Bert Monroe, a motorcycle maven obsessed with speed. The catch is, Bert is a senior citizen riding an equally geriatric 1921 Indian motorcycle. Using "odd parts" and make-shift hand-machined components, Bert began modifying his "Indian" in 1926 with the hopes of, one day, running his bike on the Bonneville Salt Flats.

Academy Award Winner, Anthony Hopkins, portrays Bert Monroe with sensitivity and a sense of dogged perseverance that translates well to the screen. In my opinion, it's a beautiful film that develops slowly using charm, humor and nostalgia to capture your attention and to hold it to the very last credit at the end of the film.

Frankly, I loved this film and have watched it a number of times. It never ceases to suspend my sense of disbelief. It actually made me feel like "I was there" at Bonneville, sharing in Bert Monroes' epic runs down the "Flats". It's a "feel good" movie that helps you to realize that dreams can come true if you work at it.

Interesting how they envision the future in the picture. Although it just gives you that 70's not very insightful or imaginative vision. Not much attention to detail as they could have done so much better.

Good flick though!

When I checked IMDB I was surprised to find that there was a remake in 2002. Funny, I missed that completely. Anyone seen both? Was the remake better? I'm sure it had better effects and a little more futuristic feel but it probably didn't have Jimmy Caan.

The World's Fastest Indian is excellent! Especially if one is a biker or LSR enthusiast. I got interested in Bonneville and El Mirage liners because of it! Burnt meat on a pipe. I'll post a fun clip at the end for the speed lovers.

A Clockwork Orange is my all time favorite. It messes with your mind and violence was for the time (Mom says) worked into a psycho-sexual-sado-maso thriller. The Eyes Wide-Shut of it's time. It was novel by Burgess in 1962 and the Kubrick movie in 1971.

It may sound funny from an 18 year old but I like Jimmy Stewart movies. there I said it.

Breakfast at Tiffany's is another one I soo love. When I watch it I see a different movie depending on my mood. Love it.

World's Fastest Motorcycle shootout at Bonneville this fall this a clip of the winner at 350MPH Chris carr in the BUB liner.


There was one faster (not a record holder) a much smaller beautifully elegant single motor Kawasaki but the EZ-Hook liner failed a front tire on slowing from 355MPH. They'll get it next year if the salt is still there. Fastest guy this year on a "normal" bike was Canadian Jason McVicar at 241MPH.

One of my favourite but not widely known movies is the Australian flick Bad Boy Bubby. It's a must see, IF you can handle it. I've never seen anything like it. Bubby, played by Nicholas Hope, has been locked up his whole life (35yrs) in an apartment with his mother who physically abuses him and uses him for sex. Then he gets out. It's filled with horrific scenes, taboo subjects, funny bits, and has a surprisingly nice ending. And I love his meeting with a priest -
" You see, no one’s going to help you Bubby because there isn’t anybody out there to do it. No-one. We’re all just complicated arrangements of atoms and subatomic particles. We don’t live, but our atoms do move about in such a way as to give us identity and consciousness. We don’t die, our atoms just rearrange themselves. There is no god. There can be no god. It is ridiculous to think in terms of a superior being. An inferior being maybe because we, we who don’t even exist, we who arrange our lives with more order and harmony than god ever arranged the earth. We measure, we plot, we create wonderful music. We are the architects of our own existence. What a lunatic concept to bow down to a god who slowly slaughters millions of innocent children. Who slowly, and agonizingly, starves them to death, beats them, tortures them, rejects them. What folly to even think that we should not insult such a god. Damn him. Think him out of existence.
