The republicans impeached Clinton, not the people.
While some people were upset about his actions, many were not, me included.
clinton was a popular president.
I think that the republicans did this just so that in the case that one of theirs comes under fire, the impeachment process has been made a mockery of
and useless so as not to be used. The very guy heading the impeachment proceedings was in the middle of an affair himself, as he recently revealed.
Hhhhmmmm, no prosecution by the republican party. With the focus on Bush right now, there really can't be anymore damage anyways.
Like I stated earlier, the impeachment process takes so long that by the time it is over, bush will be ready to leave the office anyways.
That being said, the other reason I think that Congress has not enacted it is because many of them voted for the war themselves. So it would not look
good for them to impeach the president over a war they themselves voted in.
*sigh*
Anomaly,
I just wanted to add that these past few years, infuriatingly so, SUVs and trucks are on the rise.
BUT
last year the Toyota Prius-hybrid was the #1 sold car in the US.
So that says something.
Americans are waking up. Last week I went to the pet store and complained that a litter I like to use(because it is compostable) seemed to be going
off market because I can't find it. He told me that it was because it was so popular.
He told me the environmentally friendly, organic pet products is flying off the shelves.
I started my own garden this year to have my own organic, and local, produce. I had a hard time finding some things because apparently, a lot of people
had the same idea.
(my gardening success is another story, LOL) I hope others had better success.
Anywhoo,
As silly as it seems, Americans have a deep psychological connection with their cars. We love our cars and see our cars as an extension of ourselves
like our clothes.
We built cars, cars helped get our country out of a serious economic depression, heck, many teens first times are in cars, a lot of kids were
conceived in cars, many of us grew up taking road trips across the country.
There are just a lot of good feeligns involved, and a yugo doesn't say much. And typical Americans like bang for the buck. You can buy a little car
for 30k. or you can buy a lot of car for 30k. People opt for the latter.
That being said,
now that environmentalism has been proven to be a real thing, it doesn't look geeky to drive a hybrid. It is mainstream now.
The tide is changing.
I have had to explain to Europeans many times that our public transportation is horrible. Some cities have it good like DC and New York, because they
have to be. But putting public transportation in now would make most cities go broke, and we have to drive everywhere.
So if you are driving an SUV and complaining about gas, I don't feel sorry for you. but there are those of us who try our best and are feelign the
pinch.
And a lot of people do depend on their vehicles for their livlihood.
Putting a focus on mom and pops instead of the big box stores will help.
BUt what EVERYONE doesn't get, especially Americans, is that the very close second for fuel consumption and pollution are the lawn mowers and simple
engines.
Look at how many lawns there are. homes, offices, parks, everywhere. There really needs to be a curb on such a luxury and consuming habit.
But everyone focuses on the cars, and not the smaller machines.
And I am mentioning this to put a thougt in peoples heads that this is a big problem with little focus.
And the environmental problems and the political problems that Americans face are a little overwhelming, and a little more then a lot of people
comprehend. I have heard many people say, i understand there is an environmental problem but I don't know what to do about it.
And I believe that it is the same for politics.People KNOW there is a problem, but what to do about exactly is the problem for them. We do what we
know and that is to vote, rigged or not.
People think we should revolt and have an upheavel. Well then what?
How do you get 300 million people organized, overthrow a government and agree on choosing a new lot to run.
It doesn't exactly come with instructions.
And then we see things like on saturday where 200 people storm the capital and are instantly arrested.
As long as we comply, we are left alone.
So that is what we do, leave politics alone and hope that the next election is fruitful.
