Orwell lived during a period when modern propaganda was being invented. It's techniques must have seemed very obvious to people who grew up in the
nineteenth century, just as the pathetic ploys of modern television are obvious to people who grew up in the 20th century. It's important to notice
that people have been lying shamelessly to the gullible since the beginning. They are getting better at it, though. Television is better left
unwatched.
I live in Canada, which is a Nanny State. Nannyism has completely taken over, where politics used to be based on social divisions of sorts. Now
everyone has become a special interest group trying to get closer to Nanny's tits. We are Nannied to death in this country. When you have a Nanny
state like Canada, your citizens become Ninnies, stupid, stupid Ninnies, incapable of independant thought or of forming a national consensus.
I think all modern states are basically the same. Their propaganda modalities are the same and they are just more or less benevolent.
