O.K., here's something strange maybe you can help explain. Many times while in the process of waking up, I hear and/or compose great songs. These are songs that never have existed! I'm actually creating them as I hear them. They are beautiful and perfectly composed, but I've never written down anything after waking up, so I have no concrete examples of these. I can't figure out what this is about! It's a wonderful thing, just want to get to the bottom of this.

Dream song writing, common enough I would imagine most great composers and fiction writers get influence from dreams. The problem is remembering the details. I usually have good dreams and think just after waking up that would make a good movie but as the day goes on seem to just forget about, maybe its just laziness or something else.

Get a tape recorder and hum (if you can't sing) your tune into it the minute you wake up. It sounds like you're channelling. Some folk think that everything that can exist already does in the ether, and we can pick up on that. Stephen King says he doesn't plan his stories he just starts typing and the tales "flow" through him. Enid Blyton and Hans Christian Anderson said similar things about their stories. I'm sure there are musicians who have said the same thing. Wasn't Rod Stewart's Sailing discovered like that? I'm sure I heard him saying the songs are already there and some folk just pick them out of the air.If your tunes are so great get them recorded and then written down. 1. You'll make a lot of money and 2. I want to hear them.

Hi Spiralina,

I have this kind of thing too but for me the music will come from nowhere into my mind... at night or when I'm relaxed. I have so many melodies that there's no way for me to write them down or finish any music piece

Spiralina, I can hear a whole song with vocals and all, every frequence, is it the same for you?

I wasn't trying to "brag" about these songs, just was amazed at how they would come to be upon waking, effortlessly. I'm not sure if I'm co-creating with some being, or what it may be. It's really a great experience, though. If I had a way to record these exactly as I "hear" them, that would be too perfect!

Yes, I hear every part of the song. It's also as if I'm helping in some way to construct them, too. It's a great way to wake up! It's nice to know someone else experiences this.

Wow, I know exactly what you are talking about. I have no musical background, and would have no idea how to capture what I am hearing or composing, but yes... there is definately song writing happening as I wake up sometimes.

That's great! Interesting to know that others with no musical background experience this.

i've had this happen with music. i would hear a tune in my dream and i would struglle to remember it when i woke up and byt the time i was conscious it was gone. no hope of humming it or writing it down. i've also had this with programming - i would dream a way to fix some piece of code i was stuck on but couldn't remember what it was when i woke up. i've had the ability to more fluently speak other languages (i've self taugh myself some french and japanese) while i'm dreaming but then it's all back to knowing only the basics when i wake up.

some of it is imagined - at a point where i was learning how to play the guitar i dreamt that i was very good at it and it was natural. when i woke up i realized that the way i was playing it didn't actually make sense. it's possible that the programming situation was the same - it wouldn't have actually fixed the problem or could have been complete nonsense code. maybe the japanese conversation i had with Mr. Miyagi (yes, the one from karate kid. laugh if you like.) was complete gibberish. one thing i am confident of is that the music i thought up was pleasant and enjoyable - i don't think it was any recollection of actual music i might have heard.

this happens to me a lot as well. I don't have any musical background to speak of, but I did start composing and producing and thats when it really started happening on a regular basis. It's worse when im sitting at work and i get an idea and I have to stop and try to write it down.

I think in part its sub conscience thoughts that you become aware of just before you wake up. Similar to dreams really. Then again it could be coming from some outside source but you never know. I think everyone has the ability to create artistic things such as music, it's just a matter of learning how to tap into that part of your brain. Some are born with the ability to access it easily, some have to work harder at it to unlock it, but it is there in everyone.

I have got the same experiences a lot! And I am a music producer...

Well... I really cant reproduce the things I hear in the night or when I am going to sleep the other day

But! I have composed "great" music in my bed in the past. At this moment my producing "talents" are becoming better. And sometimes I have the feeling ( I am not sure though) that I have composed something I maybe allready did in a night session or so...

I think there is a connection. But your mind has to be free to get new good compositions (thats of course always the way).

I sometimes hear music or songs when waking from dreams.

It usually changes to the mundane sound of something from the waking world i.e. birds, ducks, cars, the alarm clock.

It is weird how the two dont always sound the same though.

This happens to me as well, but when I draw. Of course it doesn't happen when I wake up, but sometimes I create some stuff that I just can't believe I did it, it's obvious that I'm not that good on it, but I can recognize when something is good

It's like wigit said, something just flows on you, but when you wake up

About music I usually wake up with music playing in my head, but nothing special like you.

This happens to me when i fall asleep and at times the song is so beautiful i wake trying to remember the melody ..

But then my work is in the music industry ..no i do not write music but i do
"remix" songs or what dj's would call bootleg,i have never written a new song,i only work on slower ones to pitch them up for a dance floor ..i create dance remixes of good pop/hip hop/r&b/contemporary/classic songs to sum it up.

I have asked so many people (people whom so claim to know about dreams & the interpretations) what it means & the answers are - if the melody is beautiful it is harmony ,you are enjoying what you are doing, things are going well though at times it may not seem to ..basically your Guardian Angels have your back.

I see it this way,if i could write notes i would have had a few no 1's on the charts so far

*Btw ,you are an artistic person, you have a talent you are maybe not aware of yet ..music plays a BIG role in our lives..life itself*

Thank you...lovely reply!! I used to remix songs using--don't laugh---cassette tapes and players. This was back before I had any of them newfangled cd players...yee haw! It was difficult, but an interesting endeavor. Music is important to me. It is liberating and empowering. Anyway, I find it fascinating that others share this experience.

Thats wonderful Spiralina! I would like to suggest you are given the gift of music!! I would have to guess you play an instrument?

I hear music that is very beautiful at times.. Much like you explained!

I have always had a passion for such things, and know if it wasnt for the music, we would not be here

We are a vibration, beautiful! You are picking up on what ties us together, and binds us to this physical realm!!!

I wish you luck! and would love to hear you play!! As I belive you have been given a gift!!!

Well i really did not know music was so big in your life as well

Maybe one day,in the life after this we can compose a tune together that will be "out of this world" so to speak ..the more we dream the closer we will get to those songs and beautiful melodies that we so so so much want to just write down.

i know exactly when you say ..the most beautiful, amazing melody/song ..it is so beautiful in our dreams ..it is really out of this world, well something so beautiful that i have not heard on earth..& i work with music everyday of my life.

Maybe those people who have had NDE's who explained how beautiful the colors are ,colors we do not have on earth,it's difficult to understand as we have seen all the colors (but only that of earth) ..so i really believe that even the music we dream about is on that type of level..we cannot explain it ,people will only understand once they hear the melodies ..it's truly amazing.

We are blessed and gonna rock on after this life (and dance!)

Wow..haven't checked this thread in a while. Thanks for the wonderful replies. I failed to mention that I do not play any instrument, so there is no musical knowledge in the works at all. Also, I just realized that it doesn't only occur upon awakening.
Sometimes, out of nowhere, a line from a nonexistent song will flash across my consciousness. It may be at a point of deep thought, or distraction while doing something. It's great, I'd love to know what it really signifies.

as someone mentioned earlier, I think it's possible that you ARE channeling these melodies. But there are 2 different theories behind this; you are channeling them from a different dimension/ earthly location OR (2) You are channeling this music (supposably remembering) them from a past life.

No way! I'm so glad I found this thread! I thought I was the only one that did this, but I guess not.

I'll wake up with songs in my head and they would sound so awesome and they sometimes have lyrics!

What could this be?
