Study predicts more severe U.S. storms

By SETH BORENSTEIN, AP Science Writer Thu Aug 30, 6:58 PM ET

WASHINGTON - As the world warms, the United States will face more severe thunderstorms with deadly lightning, damaging hail and the potential for tornadoes, a trailblazing study by NASA scientists suggests.

While other research has warned of broad weather changes on a large scale, like more extreme hurricanes and droughts, the new study predicts even smaller events like thunderstorms will be more dangerous because of global warming.

AP article

This report is rather alarming for several reasons, not least of which is a 6% increase in lightning in the West along with increased dryness, a deadly combination. It may be a coincidence, but last night there was a major electrical storm in Los Angeles. I don't have to tell anyone living in So. California how rare that is.

Likewise, those in the Midwest and Southeast get no comfort from this report. It predicts stronger and more frequent tornado spawning "whopper" storms rolling through those regions.

Fasten your seatbelts, it's going to get bumpy.

Maybe, just maybe, Americans will finally start making normal houses, made of solid material, instead of "frame" houses, that are good for nothing and are not healthy.

Maybe, the idiotic way of destroying so much wood only to make fragile houses will stop.

Maybe.
