Now the Vorlons and Shadows... thats a tough one isn't it?
vulcans, klingons, vorlons OH MY!
The Vorlons and Shadows are easy to explain. If you followed Babylon 5 closely, you know that JMS was telling an atheist story, using a quasi-modern
retelling of the Bible to do it.
Lorien was God. The Vorlons were Angels. The Shadows were the Demons, and Morden was Lucifer.
The Vorlon mentality was all about forcing the "younger races" into obedience with their word and will. Only by heeding their words, would and could
we be saved. The Shadows, on the other hand, asked only one question... "What do you want?". They fed our desires and wants, so that we would do
their bidding, and they gave EVERYONE what they wanted, so that the younger races would turn on one another, and fight to the death, leaving the
stronger, more aggressive species as the victor, to whom the spoils would go.
In the end, however, the true nature of the Shadows was revealed... when Sheridan basically told everyone, "Get the hell out of our galaxy.", he
basically ended the continuation of the Biblical wars, by saying that we won't fight at all... for ANY of you. With no pawns to use on the board, all
parties had no choice, but to leave. When that happened, it was revealed how much the Shadows were afraid of being cast away again, away from the
company of God.
We know this, because when Lorien said that they must all go beyond the rim, the Shadow asked him directly... "Will you come with us?". The manner
in which that line was spoken was in the same fashion that a child would ask his parent to hold their hand... the Shadows no longer wanted to be
alone. And Lorien said that yes, he would join them, and soon, everyone that had been so missed, would again be seen, beyond the rim.
