Cool. Um, tell me one thing that has been understood or explained about the Universe by your meditations?

Well, that the natural state of consciousness is essentially inactive, like a flat line. This is a state that can be experienced through meditation. In physical reality, this state of consistent consciousness is observed as cosmic background radiation, thought to be remnants from the big bang. If that background radiation is what is left of the event, and that wavelength is where the consciousness exists, then it's possible that consciousness does have answers to the question of origin.

What I wonder is if you are talking about 'woo-hoo' type meditation, such as TM, or Buddhist chanting, or do you mean expanding the human mind?

Chanting is a mantra, and that is how you meditate. All meditation involves a mantra of some kind, which is a repetitive action, word, phrase or thought that brings you to your desired level of awareness. An unavoidable side effect of this awareness serves to expand the mind, so there is really no difference between buddhist chanting, christian praying, or a crazy person saying a word over and over again. It all coaxes you toward that state. If you are well-equipped, you'll control your fall into that abyss and direct yourself.

I believe in science, and i believe that the research about consciousness and its relationship with physical reality will spark the beginning of the next great age of science, where we make great discoveries with regard to these matters.

I have always wondered this myself. If we assume that the universe was created by natural causes and not a GRAND CREATOR then there had to be a "before", correct?

How did this happen? Where was the material at? What triggered the big bang? If the big bang was triggered, then something HAD to be there BEFORE to trigger it, and there had to be material there to be used in the creation process of the universe, correct?

This is giving me as big of a headache as the time travel paradox thread.

This is semi related to one of my old threads, in that if there was a Big Bang, then someone had to create that Big Bang, right? If God always has and always will be, then wouldnt God have had a hand in everything since the beginning? If that is true, then how could something have been created when there was no beginning for it to come from.

This thought keeps looping back on top of itself and it can go on forever and in many different angles.

Nice...but this just shift the 'mystery' of origin on another scale - but does NOT answer what was in the 'beginning"!

What give rise to multiverse than?

I think we are totally in dark on these question!

"I" did it. "I" gave rise to the multiverse.

Its odd when you really really think about this stuff, i mean i can only say this from an existing point of view but why do things exist when surely it makes more sense for nothing to exist? that at least for my mind makes more sense than stuff existing and yet it takes a highly complex life form to come to such a bizarrely logical conclusion.

When you also think about it a certain way you realise that at least your perceived experience of your life and what you can imagine and can't has to exist in this thing called existence that may or may not encompass only this universe we can see and yet without it there are simply no words to describe the thought you have for a brief second when you realise the absurdly unexplainable nature of it all while everyday and even a few seconds after the thought everything is very normal, perhaps too normal, how can such a thing be?

Infinity and sub-space. Multiple big bangs creating multiple universes within a multiverse. Perhaps there are larger composites, maybe going on forever. Where does the energy from these big bangs come from? Sub-space, fueled by all that enters blackholes. This is just a short and simple version of what I think reality actually is.

I can't even begin to speculate on this. I'm still amazed by Neutron Stars much less the entire Universe.

Usually though, when I do begin to think about all this, my mind always comes back to one thought. Human existence is but a tiny tiny spec on the time line of the universe. To believe that we can even remotely grasp the inner workings of space is arrogant at best.

I always have this sense that a thousand years from now, man kind will laugh at some of the theories / sciences we have now. Remember at one point man swore the Earth was flat, and that all planets revolved around us.

My Opinion

The Universe was created by God.

Or

The Universe happened naturally without a God.

What Happened?

Could God have been from the future!! and went back in time to nothingness

to create the universe we now live in?

Maybe it is naturally occuring and just by chance the few things floating

around in the nothingness created the universe?

I'm just throwing around random thoughts.

and thats my opinion

As hard as it is to imagine its perhaps possible for something to have always existed, this doesn't mean the universe as we know it but its maybe even likely as here we are talking about it.

I think before the big bang there could of been nothing except time and space in a sense but not as we know it, theres this phenomena where space has tiny fluctuations that can cause essentially virtual particles to appear out of nothing but because theres two opposites they almost always destroy each other immediately after, perhaps by pure chance enough was created to produce the big bang or maybe some sort of stable system was setup by chance which created a consciousness which eventually after a very long time grew in intelligence and managed to setup the big bang.

Before the event took place, everything was concentrated into an area smaller than an atom. We're not talking about matter like dirt, metal, or even atoms. There were no elements at this time. Infact Helium and Hydrogen were the first two atoms to be created, and this occured quickly AFTER the big bang at inconceivably high temperatures. All other elements were created by chemical reactions, hundreds of thousands of years after the event. Elements are being created today in the core's of stars throughout the universe.

The "stable" system was before the big bang, when the laws of the universe (strong force, weak force, gravity, electro magnetism) were one in the same, the bubble the contained it all. At the moment of the big bang, something occured to break that unified force into four.

I do believe our reality and the universe is purely composed of consciousnes on the most fundamental level. That consciousness is both individual and subjective, meaning it can be experienced as a whole and on a personal level like we do every day.

If our observation of electrons (fundamental in the universe) causes electrons to act differently, then it's possible that the cause of the big bang is one of two things:

1) Consciousness suddenly became aware of itself, the reaction being the big bang and the creation of all reality.

2) Consciousness entered a sleep state, and the big bang is how we experience our consciousness in a dream state. When it "wakes up," we are all brought back to that central point of singularity, a sort of sub conscious environment where we have no ability to be aware.

Science is merely the journey towards understanding existence. Some things can be wrong with science, that is what science is all about. Learning.

Mathematics are the blueprints for existence. If numbers can't prove it, it is not possible. Not here, not in a different reality, not in a different plane, and not in a different dimension. One is one and two is two, and this will always be, everywhere. Some will argue that equations have been wrong, but that is all because of lack of information and human fallibilty.

Of course the future is going to look down on us for our incorrect sciences, but they'll also look down on us for other things such as eating meat, or even keeping pets. Carl Sagan wrote that the future will look down on us for "the criminalization of the use of euphoriants by adults".
I like that one.

I'd like to note that the Catholic church didn't admit they were wrong about the Earth being flat until 1993! Another reason why I don't trust religions.

Previous to the big bang was possibly a balanced equation of energy. It's impossible to have balance without unbalance. It eventually it HAD to become unbalanced in order to even exist. It was like an hourglass. The energy was stable as long as sand flowed through the middle. Eventually, the cycle concluded, thereby throwing all of that energy outward.

I think it might be possible that WE happened before the big bang. Maybe there was a prior Universe that eventually organized itself back into a balanced equation. Maybe that's the big crunch.

We ARE the Universe! If we create the next level of intelligence and then they create the next level of intelligence and so on and so forth maybe a future intelligence figures out how to completely change the entire Universe. Without purpose, it continues to reconfigure the Universe until the Universe is back at square one. Then there's another big bang and it starts all over again.

Maybe a superintelligence in a previous Universe figured out how to create another Universe and in that way that Universe gave birth to ours.

Oweeee my hed hurts!

A good book to read on this subject is David Darling's Deep Time: The Journey of a Single Subatomic Particle from the Moment of Creation to the Death of the Universe and Beyond

The Hawking-Turok Instanton Theory is one answer as to what happened before the big bang and is summarized in the following lecture: web.uvic.ca...

Here's a quote by Turok summarizing said theory

"Think of inflation as being the dynamite that produced the big bang.
Our instanton is a sort of self-lighting fuse that ignites inflation.
To have our instanton, you have to have gravity, matter, space and time.
Take any one ingredient away, and our instanton doesn't exist. But if
you have an instanton, it will instantly turn into an inflating, infinite
universe."

So the interesting thing to note here is that Hawking and Turok proposed that the universe began from virtually nothing.

The shortcoming with this as with all answers to questions pertaining to "what happened before the big bang?" are two questions that remain unsolved:
1. What caused the existance of the instanton in the first place?
2. What is the universe expanding into?

You may be wondering why the question of "What happens before time = 0?" didn't make the shortcomings. This theory actually answers that although indirectly as shown from the following snippets taken from the website.

A visual description of space and time
"To explain the Hawking and Turok's universe concept, think of space-time as a cone with its tip pointing downwards. Time runs up the height of the cone while space runs around the width of the cone. The two meet together at the tip, or singularity. At the tip, the mathematical equations defining the laws of physics break down"

Time and space defined at time = 0
"Time has taken on properties of space; the direction of time follows the same direction of space. However, space contracts to a point and disappears."
