What are "quote mines"?

This is another quote mine:

Whatever the outcome, the skull shows, once and for all, that the old idea of a 'missing link' is bunk...It should now be quite plain that the very idea of the missing link, always shaky, is now completely untenable.

Now think about what you feel the quote suggests the author was saying.

Then, if you want to understand was a quote mine is, read the original Gee article.

If it's still a bit ambiguous, follow up with the quote mine project assessment of this 'quote':

Quote mine project

Hopefully now you'll understand what a quote mine is. If not, wiki can explain it simply.

Then, it might be a good idea to also read this. It explains why an argument from quotations is pretty naff.

Thank you for the information......My apologies for using the "quote mines". I didn't realize that was what they were and certainly won't use them again.

No worries, it's a common creationista tactic - murder a piece of work, sewing out-of-context quotes together to essentially deceive. The guys who do this are true liars for jesus. People who use them are generally victims of their misinformation.
