Best place to live to avoid disasters?

I've been trying to find a map or just plain ol' info on where the best place to live in America would be to avoid natural/man made disasters. Anyone have any websites or info? Just something that got me thinkin!

I would imagine it would probably be somewhere in or near mountains. The first thing that comes to my mind would be the somewhere in the Smoky Mountains. There's lots of fresh water and small game, and fish too. It stays fairly cool in the mountains and when winter comes you can go down the mountains to where its warmer. Not a lot of people there either. The pacific northwest wouldn't be bad either, except it's a fairly populated area. But it all depends on how resourceful you are and what environments you feel comfortable in. Most people in my area wouldn't last a week if the SHTF due to the lack of abundant fresh water. The nearest source of fresh water that isn't on a farm and full of cow crap is probably 30 or 40 miles away, unless I felt like digging a well, in which case it's only 5 miles to a huge aquifer system. Not to mention the hurricanes and powerful thunderstorms that pound us in the late summer/ fall, with the occasional tornado thrown in for good measure. We have abundant sources of food, however, and the thick woods help immensely if you have to hide, especially from people who aren't accustomed to the area. But the main factors in this are your own skills and resources. If you aren't comfortable somewhere or your skills don't apply to the area you are in, you should be someplace else.

there is no such thing this is truly a myth. the closest thing to this would be your momas woumb and we all know there no going back.

the problem with living in a safer are means that you will be isolated should anything go wrong like a snake bite or spider bite or maybe grizzly bear there are other things out there that can get you even a small cut can get infested

what are you gona do when you need a dentist remeber what happened in castaway that wasnt pretty but thats what you are looking at

In some sense there is no safe place in the USA or Canada. But one would be wise to get as far away from the largest cities, largest ports and largest military bases as possible.

This reminds me of the guy who wanted to find the safest place in the world to live.....true story.

He chose the Falkland Islands. No sooner did he get settled in than the Falkland Island war broke out.

The simple fact is, Life is not safe. If a natural disaster doesn't get you than a car crash will. If you survive the afflictions of mankind long enough, old age will still cash in your chips.

You are going to die. Accept that and perhaps you may get some understanding as to how to live.

Every moment may be your last, every dawn may be the day that has no sunset for you.

Appreciate life. Drink it in and be grateful for the moments that have been given you. You never know when that last moment will come.

My area is pretty safe, central Maryland.
No earthquakes, maybe a rare tornado but they don't last long. Heat but everythign is air conditioned.
We get hurricane residue but nothing that a generator for a few days may take care of.
We got 4 ft of snow ten years ago, but global warming is taking care of that I think.
We are in a drought, but have massive resevoirs.
The only problem is close proximity to DC.

I hear that Tasmania is the new place to be. Civilian guns were confiscated after the Port Arthur Massacre. The Northern Hemisphere is where the action will be.

I always thought up-state New York/Vermont or Northern Maine were good bug out areas. I think about the Large expanse of woods, lots of lakes/rivers, no major cities within hundreds upon hundreds of miles.

Living on one of those thousands of Islands in Maine might not be a bad spot to ride it out when SHTF.

Of course, if I had a"house" like this, I would probably stay put.

This is true.. There is no safe place in this world my friend.. Sure you might be safer in another place than another.. But still every single area you live in either has.. Torando, hurricanes, tsumi, earthquake, bear attack, snake attacks.. ect ect..

I suggest you enjoy the life you have while you have.. When its your time, thats it, your out of here.. Just use comman sense.

You could be the safest person, and still go to get some milk and get killed by a drunk driver...

This world was built to kill you!!!

No offense, but I don't think too many areas in the US are inhabitable because of rampant snake attacks.

also, considering safest spots to live, in the survival forums theres a link showing the spread of nuclear "stuff" in the US, if a nuclear attack happened to happen in the US...I'd also go by that map. Try to get out of the way of the "nuclear current" lol

IMO the question is misguided.
Let me explain why. The environment is contestant no matter where you go in the US or the world. In fact where the environment is the most contestant tends to be the harshest places on earth. For example it rarely rains in the Outback and the Sun doesn't even make an appearance for a good part of the year in Antarctica. So in terms of the climate you rely on the variables that cause you problems to survive a good example of this is rain water to little and you have a shortage of drinking water and to much can cause floods.

IMO the most dangerous thing is not understanding your environment which leads to not knowing who to survive in the wildness around you.

So when the armed hordes of Yanks fleeing from the US arrive at your shores, you guys have no guns to drive them off? Gov't's always fail to protect their citizens and only protect themselves. Mass armed resistance is the only course of survival action against an invasion. If you surrender, you place your fate in the hands of someone who's probably come to take the resources needed for their survival not yours.
