Georgia fires at Russian plane

news.bbc.co.uk

Georgian forces have fired at an aircraft they believed to be Russian after it violated Georgian airspace, a senior government official said.

Tbilisi could not confirm whether the plane was shot down, but said that a nearby section of forest was on fire.

Holy provocations Batman!

Presuming the report is accurate, what is Russia up to exactly with all this flying around buzzing everybody?

They're just flexing their muscles - Don't forget Putin's old job, and they still see the old socialist republics as fair game - especially if you consider the recent historical enmity.

They have to start to understand that Georgia is no longer a vassal state, and that they are no longer a superpower.

I agree with one of the above posters. It looks like sabre rattelling, basicly telling them they're not above giving them a kick in the butt if they try anything that Russia doesn't like.

If they did shoot one down good for them. Feel bad for the pilot though.
I guess that would mean that Russia has been shooting at them as claimed.

I hope more countries start backhanding Russia like this. Now that she's back on her feet she needs to learn to play nice with her neighbors... they aren't her vassals anymore.

Untill there is solid proof, this seems to be as much bullsht as the whole "missile incident" where Georgian authorities diligently destroyed all evidence before international observes could identify the junk that fell from the sky. Georgia is known for false accusations and outright lying to get political favors from the West.

Georgia's information ministry is under full control of their nutjob leader. Since he came to power, there were more bullsht news out of Georgia than one would care to count. This is why many news agencies around the world are not to quick to pay attention to that well known attention whore. However BBC has jumped on board since the missile incident, and appears to have been completely incorporated into Saakashvilli's Propaganda Ministry. The West really loves that nutjob, and one has to wonder why.

So before anyone starts to panic about wars and Russia taking over the world, wait and see how this turns into another media farce with no evidence and pure speculation.

And one more thing - why the hell did Georgia allegedly shoot at a plane when they didn't know whose plane it was or what type of a plane it was? For all we know it might have been a UFO, and Georgia would be responsible for the War of the Worlds. Or maybe they downed a learjet or a cessna. And what the hell did Georgia use to shoot at the plane? AK's? The scrap metal left over from the "missile"? Saakashvilli's secret laser beams?

Pro-Russian Abkhazia says Georgian plane crashed

www.reuters.com...

TBILISI (Reuters) - A pro-Russian breakaway region in Georgia said on Saturday it believed a Georgian plane crashed over its territory this week and dismissed Georgia's accusation that a Russian aircraft had violated its airspace.

Georgia has said it fired at a Russian airplane on Wednesday and might have downed it, intensifying a row between Georgia and its imperial master, Russia. On Saturday Georgia said it had only fired a warning shot.

Abkhazia, which broke away from Georgia in 1993 with Russia's help, said it had witness testimony that a plane came from the Black Sea and went down two minutes later in the mountains in Upper Abkhazia.
