I have seen a few Canadians here. Let's start a thread on Arctic sovereignty. The waters to the pole have always been ours and will continue to be ours. One of the topics at the Summit at Fairmont Le Chateau Montebello, Quebec.

Ok. 34 people have viewed this one, but it appears to be dead in the water. I did find a similar thread somewhere else on the site. My apologies for starting this one. I'm new, and I'm learning here. There are so many topics it is easy to lose yourself.

I heard Denmark is staking a claim there too, via Greenland. And wasn't it a couple weeks back that Russia planted a flag at ocean floor, claiming the Lomonosov ridge as an extension of their continential shelf?

What is Canada gonna do about it other than build that station up north?

On another related issue, I heard the melting caps are revealing new, previously unknown islands in the area. I'll see if I can find the links for that.

For the record I'm not Canadian, but it is still a topic that interests me.

Yes, Russia did plant a flag at the botttom of the ocean. It's a shame we can't see where it is...lol The dispute with Denmark is over an island between green land and Canada. I don't think it's worth the trouble over fighting for a rock. I know how sovernity works. You must have a presence in the area. Canada's rangers are not enough. PM Harper promised the construction of a deep water Arctic Naval base; we are still waiting on that one. It will be interesting to see the final outcome. The conspiracy side of me thinks everyone else wants it for the oil reserves it holds. It has some of the worlds's best diamonds also. Cheers.
