If phone book sized phone bills don't get your goat, then maybe having the battery replaced in your iPhone will.

A second class-action lawsuit argues that Apple Inc. and AT&T Inc. failed to tell early buyers of the iPhone that annual fees of more than US$100 would be needed to replace the iPhone battery and maintain service.

Apple will replace the battery free if it fails within one year and you can buy an extended warranty for about $70 dollars, but replacing a battery out of warranty will cost you about $80 dollars plus shipping and it must be changed by a "qualified technician," because the battery is contained inside the sealed case.

Another reason why the IPhone is not worth the hype...

Is it just me, or does apple like to make their battery's IMPOSSIBLE to replace?
qualified technician?!?! I have to go to collage or university for a certain trade to change a battery
Thats degrading lol!

Glad I didn't buy an IPhone, probably just jealous but, I would have tried to sue too.

I don't get it. Is that not the exact same policy for iPods. If you improperly charge the batteries, they have short lifespans. How is that apples fault?

I didn't read anything in the article about the iPhone that mentioned improper charging.

Did you?

In its defense, however, Apple has stated on its Web site that the lithium-ion battery when properly maintained will hold up to 80 percent of its full charge at 400 charge and discharge cycles.

The batteries should not need replacement for at least 2-4 years. Not every year to maintain service, as stated in the article. A dead battery, that needs replacement at one year would be due to improper charging practices. The lawsuit is based on the fact that to"maintain service" the batteries will need replacement every year for 80$(and was not stated in the sign-on agreement). This is not true, the battery life should be on par with the iphones service agreement of 2 years or more, if its charged right. Didn't they wonder how they would change the batteries before buying the phone while looking at it in the store?

Just called my buddy who owns an iPhone and asked him how many times he charges it per week, his answer was between once or twice a week. Based on math, that means he will charge his phone on average of 104 times a year. According to apple, his battery will then last for 4 years before replacement, well past the service contract with AT&T. How is this unfair to early adopters of the iphone as stated in the article?

Personaly, I agree that the iPhone was 70% hype, and 30% cool phone. Looking for an alternative? Check this out!

Call me old fashion but I'll stick to the land line.
While on hold I can listen to free tunes!

I got rid of the land line a few years ago and have not looked back.

I don't mind extra technology on my phone, like a camera and some data services, but I want my cell phone to be a cell phone first and all those other things second.

I can access the web on my phone, but frankly, that's not likely to ever happen, because I can't think of a need to do so.

Maybe that day will come and I'll thank my lucky stars I could do it, but for the time being, the desktop meets my web needs quite nicely.
