Iran's elite Revolutionary Guards said they would not bow to pressure and threatened to "punch" the U.S., in their first response to Washington's plan to list them as a terrorist organization, newspapers reported Saturday.

The Iranian Guard has 125,00 soldiers in it.
If the US invades, this will be a different type of war.
We wont be fighting terrorists or rebels, we will be fighting an organized govt. army...

Now, the US is obviously stronger, our air force could just bomb the hell out of them... But if we send in our troop... I really believe we will get punched. They will eventually be destroyed, but America will come out of there with a black eye, and lots of dead soldiers.

Every country has the right to defend itself. The US medelling in Iranian affairs is unwarranted. The revolutionary guard is responding exactly as they are supposed to, just as the defensive military of any country is supposed to.

If any other country were to throw itself politically and militarily against the US because of their obvious harboring of weapons of mass destruction (the americans are actually proud of their WMD's) you wouldn't expect the US to allow another country to walk in and attack them without fighting back would you?

If you want to end dictatorship, Iran has a democracy, no point in invading.
If you want to stop WMD's start with the US, they have more than anyone.
If you want to end terrorism, Iran's already told you repeatedly they want to help. Let them.

So they have theoretically admitted that they have been 'punching' the US/UK in Iraq anyway.

I wonder what the US would be doing of a hostile foreign power invaded Canada and Mexico? A power that was openly threatening to attack us unless we do what they want.

Because like their government or not (& I do not) that's the position we've put them in.

Yeah Iran has every right to continue their way of life. The US are crazy for thinking they should be the ones that hold all the power... well, them and their buddies right?

And there are plenty of americans against the war in Iraq, Im one of them, so I could see who Iraqs neighbors would try and help em out.

Seriously though, if ground forces enter Iran, they are going to be in for a supprise. When was the last time the US faced an actual organized army? Vietnam? WWII?

I think if the US does invade, they are gonna pull out the big guns. Do some tactical air strikes, destroy 80% of Iran's structures, like they did in Iraq, and then send our boys in for clean up...

Sucks that our boys are just pawns in an ever growing chess game. Lots of people are gonna die before its check mate.

The Iranian Guard has between 125,000-200,000 soldiers, all highly trained. That is in addition to their regular standing army. I will not for one minute try to argue that the US is stronger than this. It would be an embarrassing defeat if nukes weren't used. It would be the end of the world if they were.

Well, at this point we are making predictions. For the past months, even longer, people here on ATS have been predicting that we will invade Iran, and now the US govt has named a national army terrorists. this has never happened in history... EVER. If the united states wants to invade Iran, this is the excuse they will use... although i think another terrorist attack would push in the US's favor... planned or unplanned.

We predicted Iraq. Multiple times.

(And that smily icon just makes the poster look immature... It doesn't do anyone justice... I think it sould be altered to make it look less sarcastic.)

We also predicted that there were no WMD's... we predicted the US wouldn't be leaving... predicted Saddam's circus like trial, his execution, the growing secular violence, the troop surge.

So... why is it that you laugh in the face of this prediction? The US government has made it clear that they wish to attack Iran IMO... they have labelled their military a terrorist force, delcared them to have WMD's and to be attempting to develop nuclear warheads (so far all they have wanted is nuclear power plants as they are running out of oil). The US has accused Iran of backing the insurgencies in Iraq, with no tangible evidence, they have accused them of arming the terrorists, they have sunk a ship destined for Iran, they have mounted forces along the Iranian/Iraqi border... the list just keeps going.

It should be clear to any rationally thinking person that the US is trying to make a case to justify an attack on Iran. They've even gone as far as to accuse the Iranian government of opressing it's own people... yet the realist notices that Iran is a democracy, and immediately declares the US's information as lies and stretches of the imagination.

Tell me this, did you also think the US government wouldn't attack a country who has been at peace for 10+ years, with no WMD's and no intention of fighting? cause thats what they did to Iraq... of course, the only thing that likely registers in your mind is, Middle East = baddies.

This isnt an end of the world prediction... just an educated guess... called a hypotyhesis... scientists make them all the time. America is the Dependent Variable, Iran is the independent variable

Does anyone know the difference between a nation that has nukes and has not threatened to "destroy other nations" and a nation whose regime continuously calls for the destruction of Israel and all it's allies?....

or saying the Isreali regieme should be changed?
or the same Nation unlike some which hasnt invaded a country in the last few decades

I DO feel ya man. But there is still a certain code of conduct a nation should take. The ultimate idea is that we should focus on ourselves, rather than attacking other countries because they hold a means of solving there problems. I'm actually israeli, but this is Israels problem, not ours. Israel has been defending itself for decades. They always had the US to back them up, but they still handled it themselves. They have a good military and a proud one. And the US invading Iraq was great for Israel. The US was fighting their fight. So Iran will also be part of that same ordeal, and they are all connected. The US isnt just backing Israel up though, this is for another goal. and thats the scary part.
The US govt. can handle themselves, but while they are on their own agenda, Its up to the citizens, and all people, to look at the real motives. The US should worry about themselves, it has enough problems as it is. look at all the internal stuff.... 9/11 cough cough
